Washington: Man Kills Wife and Her Children in Latest U.S. Mass Shooting

The gunman had said at 9:37 a.m. local time he shot his wife and children and was holding a gun to his own head, officials told KIRO-TV. The sheriff's office tweeted Friday night that the victims' relation to the shooter was not yet verified.

The gunman didn't fire on any officers and killed himself when the SWAT team moved in on the property around 12:30 p.m., Chief Deputy Spurling said.

“I’m looking at the TV and there’s a picture of my road. I said, 'My God that’s my driveway. There’s SWAT cars … halfway down the road,'" he said. "I’m kind of surprised this happened up here in my paradise."

The couple who lived nearby got married about five years ago and were both in their 40s, he said. The woman had adopted two teenage sons from Russia in a previous marriage and a daughter from China.

Her husband, a heating and air conditioning contractor, had been taking a lot of medications after a recent hospital stay, Pigott said. He didn't know why the man was hospitalized.
