Katy's tweet about blasphemy in 2010

Featured Posts

this tweet was made the day the music video for Alejandro was released and is probably the main reason why I hold grudge against Katy Perry :neyde:

now, fellow GGDers, I want to know your opinion on why did she make this tweet.

was Katy pressed and jealous that even after all the commercial success she had at that time she was still overshadowed by a single music video release by Gaga or does she really think that using blasphemy in entertainment is a cheap joke?

but if the latter is true, why Katy is such a big fan of Madonna, who is famous for using blasphemy in her artistry? :saladga:

or does Katy take this stance only when it comes to Gaga? :emma:

Bonkers

I remember at the time everyone pointed out she had just done a video wear a bra made out of whipped cream cans.  No one thought she had any real authority to call anything cheap.

Remember she was from a cheezie Christian band and bible thumping family she knows how to score points with the same kind of people who vote for Donald Trump - and there are a lot of them!

Dark Horse came around... and I didn't see her complaining then

Let's be honest her attitude isn't the best

This thread will end well   :green:

Didn't she have some sort of religious piece of jewelry in the green screen Dark Hearse video that was incinerated or something? Then after some much-wanted controversy that helped the single sell, they went in and erased it from the video? Hmm

She tweeted what she thought ppl wanted to hear...cut to 2014 and she's getting accused of blasphemy for the Dark Horse video...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Because Madonna was the first major commercial female popstar to do it. It became the standard. And the "next generation" of female popstars (like Britney) also used their former Catholic school girl image, only to mix it up with sexual content.

While I love Alejandro and it's video, I do see why it was the kick-off for a lot of people in Team Madonna to give Gaga the sideway eye-roll. From working with Madonna's long-time director Klein (who has never directed any other commercial videos except for Madonna and Gaga), to the obvious Vogue tribute with the black & white scene, to the crosses and blasphemous imagery and the song's obvious throwback feel to Ace of Base/La Isla Bonita... It was a little heavy. Madonna's friend Ingrid was asked about it on Twitter and said Madonna was shown the video (this was a few months after she'd worked with Gaga on SNL) and said "Does she think she's me in that video?". It was really, really Madonna-esque. Almost find Alejandro low-key more obvious in Madonna-influence than Born This Way (although it's obviously referencing Express Yourself).

I get what you mean, and I agree that Alejandro's video was an obvious reference (maybe stealing :emma:) to Madonna.

but do you imply that Madonna being the first one to use blasphemy as entertainment makes her uncriticizable in Katy's eyes?

Hardly stealing from Madonna but paying homage to that era.

Lord Temptation

Katy's entire album Teenage Dream, the songs and the concept, was derived from one lyric from the title track off Lady Gaga's first album, The Fame.

"Don't ask me how or why

But I'm gonna make it happen this time

My teenage dream tonight

Yeah I'm gonna make it happen this time"

Katy's been insecure about her success from day one.
