Gianni Versace 2,987
David Bowie’s death on January 10 has sent lingering repercussions throughout the music world, the latest of which was a tribute to the performer at the Brit Awards tonight (February 24). With introductions by friends Annie Lennox and actor Gary Oldman, the tribute then took a musical turn with the arrival of 19-year-old New Zealander Lorde. Here’s five ways her performance was way better than Lady Gaga’s Grammys medley nine days ago. 1. It was backed by Bowie’s band 2. Lorde knew that one outfit was good enough 3. It was subtle 4. It had Bowie’s stamp of approval 5. It was actually about Bowie http://www.nme.com/blogs/nme-blogs/5-ways-lordes-bowie-tribute-was-better-than-lady-gagas I told you hoes this TWICE before Gaga even performed but some of you had the nerve to argue against it: #GianniKnows #IToldYouHoes

mariomania1234 11,368
Their too different to be compared really. I like both for what they were and tried to accomplish.

GlamGorgeousGG 220
NME contradicts themselves constantly. Hard to take them seriously, but of course they're welcome to their opinion. I think the main thing is that the awards shows are featuring these tributes to him.
Iwontell 7,312
I wouldn't expect anything different from NME... I mean, everyone gets to have an opinion, that's democracy. But I frankly don't get why they are so personally against Gaga... From all the stuff they said, though..."It was subtle", bc David Bowie was all about subtlety, right...? They want to **** on Gaga for going for spectacle and artifice in the same way that Bowie, the person they're trying to praise, did..? And "It was actually about Bowie"...are they INSIDE Gaga's head to know that? "It had Bowie's stamp pf approval"...? Did they get the Long Island Psychic to talk to him...? You see how they're full of **** when they make any comment about her? I mean, ppl can definitely think Lorde did a better a job, I totally get it (particularly, I think they achieved similar results, through different routes), as long as they don't start pulling these stupid "reasons" out of their asses... ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.
Swan Heart 7,382
"It was actually about Bowie" Gaga was even freaking dressed as Bowie, how the hell is her performance not about him?! I swear... They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.
Benji 20,113
I think I preferred Lorde's approach too. I don't mean to discredit Gaga because she done a great job too.
Fernster7 7,923
First of all they are different so don't make this into a ****ing competition. And say what you want but I still think Gaga was the perfect choice for his tribute and she did not make it about herself ffs, Lorde was awesome too. Why can't we appreciate both without this unnecessary and immature comparison? Monsters never die.

Kayla 7,595
1. Being backed by Bowie's band is a hugely awesome thing. It shows that people close to Bowie support and like Lorde, which is important if you are tributing someone. 2. Lorde being stripped down was better and keeping it simple does help to create a more seamless show. 3. Subtle is not bad, nor is in-your-face. Fact is, Bowie was not necessarily subtle. Comparing the performances to make one better or worse than the other in terms of subtly is like comparing apples to oranges- both honored Bowie appropriately, albeit in different ways. You could criticize Gaga for being too haphazard, you could criticize Lorde for not replicating enough of Bowie's energy. 4. Bowie's spoken stamp of approval for Lorde is amazing. I'm still bummed he never openly praised Gaga, and him praising Lorde but not Gaga does raise a red flag. 5. This criticism is freaking bogus, bogus. Gaga made the performance about "herself" yet Lorde's performance was the one that featured Lorde's face on huge screens with barely any other imagery to look at other than Lorde herself. Gaga tried her best to bring Bowie himself back to the stage to honor him, Lorde chose to sing a song in more of a mourning fashion. I don't think Lorde made it about herself more than Bowie, but you'd have to be really against Gaga to say that Lorde's was better because it was "actually about Bowie." It was no more or less about Bowie than Gaga's was. Lorde's was about mourning his death, Gaga's was about celebrating his life. Both are essential and wonderful.
