Honestly both had their strengths and weaknesses but were very underwhelming. It was a tribute by two dear friends talking about his legacy and memories, Annie Lennox and Gary Oldman.. Then his touring band on the stage playing an instrumental medley of iconic songs with tear-inducing wonderful video of Bowie at the same time. Then Lorde walking out singing a full song with his band. That was the tribute put together for Bowie, and all together it was very moving. Lorde entered the stage as the medley segued into a piano led, full band rendition of Life On Mars?. During rehearsals earlier in the day Lorde posed with the band for pictures and expressed her gratitude for being given the honour of performing with them in David’s honour. In my opinion Gaga was way better. I think the casual fan or just general public probably loved Gaga's more also, as it was entertaining. Bowie's longtime fans, probably the majority enjoyed this Brits one more, not isolating it to Lorde's performance, but the whole packaged tribute with the moving tributes by his friends about his musical legacy and the video tribute of Bowie to his music by Bowie's last touring band and some of which are longtime musicians he worked with and fans are attached to and a full song done simply. Longtime Bowie fans are in heavy mourning, and that type of tribute probably is what they needed to process the grief. But I've seen some say no one is going to touch the greatness of Bowie, so they just accept them both as just fine, not great by either girl, but have no problem with Gaga's performance or Lorde's. I really wanna like Lorde and this is getting so tiring But anyway, her tribute to him is pretty tame and somewhat more respectable and soulful than Gaga's.
