Gaga did a better job, her vocals and visuals were better. She also represented everything Bowie, who he was as an artist.

Lorde did a good job but it felt more like mourning and depressing a bit. Gaga's however felt more like it was in celebration of Bowie's life, artistry and music.

I also find it easier to believe a Gaga tribute than a Lorde tribute to THE David Bowie

I seriously cannot be dealing with you guys. The majority of you complained when Gaga received criticism, but are calling out Lorde for her performance?

You guys amuse me, you really do.

In my messy era.

I liked Lorde's and Gaga's for different reasons.

Also worth noting that Madonna's was good too, she deserves a little spot in the OP.

I mean, I liked Gaga's performance because it was more entertaining to me.

visually speaking lordes was better the beginning and the screen showed bowie an plus his own band played the music very well everything flowed together, gaga every messy and fast. BUT vocally speaking, I'm sorry but lorde did not do that song justice, to me her voice does not suit life on mars at all.i just don't like that alternative hipster raspy sound she sounded like a mouse to me I needed more power. Gaga gave her all and  so I would say gagas was better imo

I even prefer jessica langes version to lordes. :saladga:

I wish gaga did life on mars I wanted her to do it so bad. she would have knocked it out with them vocals

Gaga sang better and visually and artistically embodies Bowie more. The intro was cool but it quickly turned into a total whirlwind blowing through his back catalogue at the speed of light. The intro to Lorde's performance helped set the tone and I feel overall it was better because it focused on one iconic song, as apposed to 30 second snippets of many songs.

Just my two cents, don't stab me. :neyde:

Lorde is like... blood, y'know, but while Gaga's tribute felt like a fellow androgyne's oddly mixed explosion of years and years of musical genius (though it could've been a little more focused in some parts), Lorde's felt like a superfan getting to be his idol for a night... and any Bowie superfan knows that the thin white duke (the alter ego she adopted) would've laughed at Ziggy's melodrama in Life On Mars.

I don't see the need for this thread. It's not about who's the best. Music is not a competition. Sorry for preaching but can't we just discuss what we loved about both performances instead of pitting them against each other?

According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch

What bothers me about Lorde's tribute is how people seem to be reacting. When Gaga did hers people were livid, saying she "made it all about her!" and that she was "selfish," but Lorde got up there, had her own face on HUGE screens, and didn't have much else visually to look at to represent Bowie yet she doesn't face the same criticism.

Ideally I wouldn't want EITHER of the tribute artists to face that kind of hateful criticism, but the fact that people wag their fingers at Gaga for "making the tribute all about GAGA instead of BOWIE!" when she did more to actually represent and showcase Bowie makes me want to pull my hair out.

I also agree with this. It's not like they covered their favorite Backstreet Boys songs- they were honoring a man who has recently passed away. Not exactly something to be competitive about. :laughga:
