StrawberryBlond 14,904
This is quite difficult to defend. As someone who likes comedy, this is a big issue within the community and the fans of both sides can rarely agree. On the one hand, comedians do think in similar ways. They become influenced by each other, they pick up on certain things. It's difficult to be completely original. It's ok to make jokes about the same subjects as long as you put your own spin on it. The jokes Amy said are in the same order as Patrice said them, which is highly suspicious. There have been joke stealing accusations before but it's usually gathered from all different sources. To actually say them literally one after the other in the same segment and be innocent is highly unlikely. On the upside, I much prefer Amy's delivery. Patrice just read off the definition of these acts and somehow, that was enough to get laughs even though these acts were horrible (the people in the audience must be sick f**ks, I swear). Amy added actual humour into them that made them easier to take and find funny in a very dark way. A comedian shouldn't just state facts - you've got to make those facts funny, that's the whole point! At least, if you're going to steal a joke, making it funnier than the original teller could just about make it passable. Sometimes, the originals aren't always the best. The ones who "stole" had better comedic timing and were all round funnier. Though I find it odd that she defended herself by saying that she was a big fan of a certain comedian and had made that clear, so why would she steal a joke from her. But that makes it worse! If you're such a big fan, you should remember and recognise all your fave's jokes! I've never once come up with something funny without realising that it was a joke my favourite comedian had once said. Because I instantly recognise something someone else once said! By the way, I don't get the hype over Amy. She's average at best. It's great females are coming through more on the comedy scene now but there's so many better ones than her out there who don't have her profile. Thing is, comedians rise to the top because audiences at open mic nights and comedy events, etc. deemed them good enough. So, Amy's really famous now because this is what the people wanted. Do we really think this is top quality humour?
LeoFameMonster 1,592
This is similar to joking about sex positions. Because they are invented by the public it is public knowledge so of course another comic will joke about the same position and it sounds similar. That's what Patrice did. Schumer did the same to point out the fact that all these "fun activities" are basically absurdly creative ways to just degrade women...I'm sorry, but this is just an old/hacky "joke"... But, putting that aside, people think in similar ways! It happens in comedy all the time. It doesn't mean anybody "stole" anything. HOW MANY TIMES were you guys about to comment something here and someone else commented that same thing first??? Frankly, what I see going here is the good old "OMG, a woman has become too powerful, let's bring her down!" - like people did to Whitney Cummings a while ago and the poor girl was devastated and how people try to do with Lena Dunham ever since she became famous... And Amy has volunteered herself to take a polygraph test, which only goes to show how these accusations are ridiculous... Well Lena Dunham Sexually assaulted her sister and put that in her own book sooo...
