Elton: Gaga going back to the early stuff

First of all, with only two songs of any Gaga Album, you really can't speak about the album globally. We need to wait and see. Elton compared the album with Tapestry, but said LG5 is the Gaga version of Tapestry.
Giving that I expect a Pop Rock, Pop Folk, with 3-4 retro disco influenced songs for the clubs and charts.

I expect simplicity, and more organic arrangements, but I can't see Gaga renouncing totally to electronic beats. I think an almost acoustic, and slightly toned down version of Gypsy could be very close to the sound of some songs in the new album.

And I can see a lot, lot of pianoGa, and not only for ballads or mid-temp, also for Dancey Disco songs.

I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.

I just heard the interview and now I am more excited.

It makes much more sense when you hear it rather than read it here.

The only thing I can do here by reading it is to realise how exactly fans came to be disappointed from ARTPOP. Just looking at some posts...:saladga: The words are taken completely out of context (which we don't know to begin with). Half the people here convicned themselves we are getting a TFM-like album :flop: Some went on to say that BR will be finally topped :toofunny: Either I don't posses some super powers to read into people's minds so I don't get what people are saying OR fans are just so delusional they twist the words according to their liking just to set some expectations. :wtf:

What I took home from the interview:

1) Were going back to a Gaga with a tongue-in-cheek, ironic sense of humour (as in The Fame)

2) We're going back to a romantic Gaga (as in Speechless and You and I)

3) We're going to see a Gaga display all her formative influences (Bowie/Moroder-esque disco glam with soaring Stevie Wonder vocals)

It's hard to connect that he's talking about The Fame when he then mentions You & I. Sounds more like pre-Fame if you ask me. And if that's the case, we best prepare for the meltdowns.

That's exactly what he's saying! I'm a longtime fan of Elton and I've paid attention to their friendship for awhile so I can pick up on what he says pretty easily. He has an odd way of wording things and often rambles. That is part of his charm, I guess. The key to understanding what he's heard from LG5 is to be familiar with 'Tapestry'. And if you are, you'd expect the opposite of a track like 'Pokerface' or 'Bad Romance'. With one listen to that album I believe anyone would know that. It's a pop album (in the sense of 70s pop, of course) with live instrumentals and sleek production. I think too many fans think early Gaga is TF/TFM without realizing she has another EP before that? She didn't begin there. What we may consider her roots is *not* what he (and probably she) does. With that said, I am dreading the meltdowns. :green: I'm actually excited for an album like this but tbh it'll be strange to receive a record that isn't full of dance anthems.

Well this is certainly encouraging. I felt like they said that about ARTPOP tho, that that was her trying to go back to her old days. Obviously it didnt work out that way, but she seems more focused now and seems to have more support. I have a good feeling about this. The world is ready for another great Gaga record.

All of that sounds amazing to me tbh. !

I dont recall a member of her team ever referring to ARTPOP as harking back to her "golden years", so to speak. Most of that talk came from the listeners and fans whom believed she was reverting back to The Fame what with more blatantly radio friendly music and an "immature" spirit that even she said would be featured within the music of the record.

He did not compare it to Tapestry and I think its so dangerous that his statement is being interpreted that way by anyone.

He said he would LIKE her to release her own version of Tapestry, an album in which the songs are the most important components rather than everything surrounding them. It was his own personal want for her. A desire he even made a remark about back in 2013:

"With Gaga - who I love, she's the godmother to our children - I'd like to be able to talk to her right now, but I can't get through to her," John told The Australian. "And there are times when you have to listen. When your persona begins to take over your music and becomes more important, you enter a dangerous place. Lorde had a big US hit with a song called 'Royals'. It's just her voice and a drum machine, and it's beautiful in its simplicity. It's the kind of direction Gaga should be going in." That was a statement hed made in 2013.
