Beginning on Jan. 29, Apple will be discontinuing its ad-supported iTunes Radio station service. Moving forward, Beats 1 will take over as Apple’s only free station. All other stations that were formerly free – those based on music genres and artists -- will require a paid Apple Music subscription.

The end of free iTunes Radio, which launched in 2013 and was made available only in the U.S. and Australia, was announced via an email to customers, according to 9To5Mac.

An Apple spokesperson confirmed the report to BuzzFeed: “We are making Beats 1 the premier free broadcast from Apple and phasing out the ad-supported stations at the end of January. Additionally, with an Apple Music membership, listeners can access dozens of radio stations curated by our team of music experts, covering a range of genres, commercial-free with unlimited skips. The free three-month trial of Apple Music includes radio.”

An Apple Music subscription is priced at $9.99 per month.

I already have Apple Music subscription anyway so no different for me

Plus I don't really use radio for new music. Lots of the music aren't that good anyway.

Plus, Do people really use iTunes Radio?

I told everyone. Little by little Apple will be dismantling iTunes. Y'all get all heated and don't believe me when I mention it in the charts thread, but iTunes may have ten to 15 years of life left before it becomes to expensive to maintain. Some phone companies already don't count data used from subscription music services from its data usage. Once Google and Apple cars start hitting the road they will probably have the price of music services as an option or built into the price of the car. Once iTunes starts operating at a loss it's gone.
