It's incredible how the American press have absolutely no clue when it comes to irony.........

Hope the Brits will never change, I share their sense of humor ;)

I'm American and I love Brit humor (or should I say 'humour'? lol). American media is just obsessed with drama and starting ****.

Right. But I noticed I've been misunderstood myself a couple of times here because people would take everything I said literally :rip: Thank God there are still people who use their brains.

Eh, well sometimes it happens over the Internet because it's all in text but there are people who literally can't detect irony or humor in real life.

Honestly, half of the stuff that comes out of my mouth is either ironic/sarcastic and some people are not able to detect that and it's fun :rip:

The story of my freaking life tbh :rip:

People get offended, I say it was just humor, and people go: "Oh RIGHT elijahfan, that's what you always do: talk **** and play the victim afterwards"

I don't like either versions but I like the Radiohead song as a standalone

Thom Yorke is only an alternative rock LEGEND... This queen can take a seat.

I'm not a woman. I'm not a man. I am something that you'll never understand.

Wish people would stop throwing the word "legend" around to everyone who has been popular at some point in the long distant past.

(Not denying Radiohead's good discography or impact)

Not you acting like nobody checks for Radiohead anymore. They stay one of the most popular and influential alternative bands of all time, even in 2016.

I wasn't even talking about Radiohead but rather in general.

Since you want to go there, they may be huge in your world but they are not in mine.

People in my part of the world are more likely to know Linkin Park than Radiohead.

What a pointless discussion anyway. Designating someone as a legend is as subjective a topic as they come. I just wish people would stop throwing that label around as objective fact.

"How dare you not know them hurr durr"

"Um I'm not an American. Ethnocentrism strikes again"

That doesn't detract from the popularity they already have in other places, lol. First you're trying to invalidate Radiohead's CURRENT popularity, and now you're trying to accuse me of being ethnocentric??? What's your deal today? Woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Miss me with these claims you're pulling out of where the sun don't shine and come up with some facts next time. I'll stop now because this is getting off-topic. ;)

Who the **** is Radiohead to many of today's younger generation?

I'd compare them to Pink Floyd. They're popular to a different older generation. They had impact on the music scene, but they aren't popular among the younger generation simply because they're from another time.

I love Pink Floyd, but I'm pretty sure my 18 year old cousin could give a rat's ass about him.

Attempting to diss Sam Smith for not giving them credit is ignorant at best, because it is not his fault for not caring about their impact.

Radiohead is a legend perhaps to people of a different generation, but most definitely not ours and MOST definitely not to people outside the English-speaking world.

Thinking that people are inferior/stupid for not honoring or caring about Thom Yorke is a prime example of ethnocentrism.

Radiohead is not a legend to me. Don't enforce that mode of thought on anyone.

In any case this is on-topic so I don't know what you're getting at. Resorting to ad hominem as an argument is something you're doing not me.

Many young people who listen to alternative or rock in general should at least know about Radiohead, at least in the Western world. In the rock scene, they are still relevant and critically-acclaimed. Hell, Thom Yorke's dancing in "Lotus Flower" was even made into a meme. Is this not a sign that Radiohead has a sizable amount of young fans? I don't see middle-aged people participating in meme culture. They're also one of the most listened-to bands on last.fm, a popular social media website for music fans to keep track of what they listen to and discuss music. They have 5.2 million listeners and 422.9 million scrobbles (plays). I was on this site since 2009, and most of the users on last.fm I've encountered were in their 20s.

Regardless of whether or not young people listen to them (and some DO), young people who are aware of Western music should at least know who they are. Miley Cyrus made a big stink because she wasn't able to meet them. Katy Perry mentioned them in "The One That Got Away." There's also that meme I told you about. I think they should at least know that Radiohead is an alternative rock band!

And I think Sam Smith is ignorant for not knowing who Thom Yorke is. ;) They are both English. It's not ethnocentrism if they're both from the same country. I wasn't talking about anyone outside of the Anglophone world. I was talking about an ENGLISH musician not knowing about another ENGLISH musician who's more influential than him. Then you came and subposted about me while implying that Radiohead is no longer popular, which is just simply not true in the areas where Radiohead is most popular. (And now you're saying that's not what you meant, but whatever. Also, quote me next time you wanna subpost about me.) I STILL never talked about people outside of the Anglophone world. I never explicitly mentioned them and it was never my intention to talk about them, so can you please drop this ethnocentric accusation? I wasn't talking about you or any other person outside of the Anglophone world, so you don't need to feel so offended.

I'm pretty sure most alternative rock fans would agree that Radiohead is a legend, and that's what matters, not whether or not they're known in places where alternative rock isn't popular.

That's cool. Many music critics and alternative rock fans would argue that they do have the credentials to be legends (at least in their field), but if it means that much to you, feel free to think that.

Well, hopefully my argument is enough to satisfy you. I'll eagerly wait for you to disprove what I've said. :)
