MJHolland 12,725
Does this really shock anybody? Muslim countries are THE most conservative in the entire world. Even moderate refugees are going to be religious fundamentalists from Arab countries. You really think that transplanting these people in the west is going to suddenly get rid of their conservative background? Absolutely not. They're still going to oppress their women, discourage education and financial independence, and disown their children if they come out as gay. Andy McQueen 4,484
Not sure if serious source tbh ... But if true, of course beyond gruesome. I'm just saying here in Austria are a lot of right-wing sites who post a lot of utterly bullsh*t to spread hatred against refugees. (In Germany a gay couple took 24 [!!!] muslim refugees for their home and they were informed about their homosexuality and had no problem with it, everyone is different and people shouldn't generalize - but of course homophobia is strong, especially in conservative, religous countries ...) lego 44,165
"Does this shock anybody?" Yes it ****ing does. The little trumpsters think every refugee is a potential killer. Every time a minority commits a crime, whole community gets the blame. Disgusting. FreePalestine

You want them to suddenly get rid of their social background? You sound like a baby. Things don't work that way. So far there is no evidence at all for your claims in any case. Moderate refugees being religious fundamentalists? You have no clue what goes on in Arab countries, clearly. Proper education in my opinion could help a lot. It's no secret that the Arab world was more tolerant than the Christian West in the Middle Ages (yes, look it up - homosexuality was, and still is, widely practised, and ignored, in the Arab world and homophobia is a Western cultural myth), not just in terms of sexuality, but also in terms of social conduct. All inhabitants of Europe have to be educated on these things and all inhabitants should have a scholarly understanding of Islam. We can all learn something. This pessimism is just a disguise for weakness and laziness.

Of course not, but there is still hope: http://www.thegailygrind.com/2015/11/04/gay-german-couple-take-in-24-refugees-shut-down-islamophobia-fears-with-one-facebook-post/ I think that's too general. I know some liberal muslims who have been born in such countries, yet they were able to change and evolve their views. Integration will not be easy, yes - but I still have the opinion that we have to help people that need it and those refugees definitely do. We can't let all of them die, nevertheless if there might be some with extreme and dogmatic views and indoctrination.

The most conservative countries on earth preside in the Arab world. That is a fact. And by saying "all inhabitants of Europe have to be educated on these things," I think you might mean brainwashed. I'm so done with this hatred on refugees. Here where I live in Austria the right-wing becomes stronger and stronger and muslims get harassed on streets, I'm so sick of all this hatred. There are all sorts of people in every culture and community, stop generalizing.
Didymus 34,380
1 minute ago, Goosey said: Public opinion polls can be concerning... What kind of messy poll is that. That's only based on the Muslims who would agree that sharia should be the law of government. And there's no information about what numbers agree with that. This death penalty for leaving Islam has always been the most severe in Islamic history. But I don't see how a poll like that proves that Arabs are too conservative to function properly in a Western society (where sharia ISN'T the law of the state). Voltaire 4,531
I think I understand the motivation of this thread, and I'm disappointed by it. People have the capacity to do horrible things, and they too often do them. But using the actions of a person(s) to paint a massive and encompassing portrait under the veil of "wisdom" is disappointing. I hope people remember that they have the capacity and finesse to understand complex ideas and situations and do not always have to reduce them down to a news headline in order to justify their political "team". Candy is dandy but liquor is quicker
Didymus 34,380
I see another poll has been added but it's still not conclusive. We don't know how many Muslims were asked (when you don't know numbers you can almost state that the poll is a failure) and even if it's representative, it's only about their country. Refugees who move to another country obviously don't expect sharia to be the law in that country's government. It would only take an idiot (or two, apparently) to believe in such a thing.
