I dont agree with this at all. there are plenty of artists out there that dont write their own music and have just as much of the "it factor" that rita has that are successful. the thing is they are being backed by their label and rita is not. whether you you think so or not labels help songs get radio play and commercial deals. radio is still huge in making or breaking a song. so when your label is not sending your tracks to radio youre kinda left screwed.

Getting radio support to be successful is very much a US phenomenon. The rest of the world has moved on from radio dictating what's popular. America is the only country where radioplay has a major factor in how the song charts - most world charts don't include it at all, because it means absolutely nothing. In the UK, we get songs at #1 that radio hasn't even taken notice of yet. It doesn't apply to us. All you have to focus on to win over a British audience is lots of promo and Rita has had that in spades. She's been everywhere in our media but doesn't sell, which is very odd, especially considering we like to support our homegrown artists. Yes, there are plenty of artists out there who don't write their own songs but they must have some sort of it factor if they are selling.

That's a really good way to sum it up. I don't think I've ever seen such a thing - a singer who is everywhere in the (British) media despite releasing their only album over 3 years ago (which underperformed). It's practically unheard of. She was everywhere even when she had nothing to promote. It's very rare for a popstar to take so long to release a follow up to their debut, even rarer for them to still get promo in their downtime. I simply don't understand why she's gotten all these amazing opportunities when she's done nothing to deserve them (well, it's pretty well known that she sleeps her way to the top but even that can only get you so far, surely?) I think the fact that she tied Geri Halliwell's record for having the most UK #1's for a UK solo female (which was later broken by Cheryl Cole) is seen as the reasoning for why she got given so many opportunities, even though I've explained above why these singles were not actual hits. Rita is a true case of "jack of all trades, master of none." Right now, she's famous for a lot of things - being a reality tv show judge, dating a ton of famous guys for a month at a time, being the face of big brand names...everything except her music, it seems.

ok but rira really seems hell bent on making it in america so i was talking about over here. as for the UK she seems to be charting pretty averagely over there. IWNLD went number one idk what ur talking about.

Black Widow and I Will Never Let You Down say hi (even her first singles like Right Now, R.I.P. and How We Do (Party) were pretty popular in Europe, which you can't call them 'local' just because they didn't chart in US, even tho one of them did...it's like calling Kylie Minogue local for not charting in US)
