DiscoHeaven23 35,007
I was talking to my mom about this the other day, and it really does seem like the experience off "super" fame can really have bad effects on the human mind. One way that psychologists look at mental illnesses like depression, anxiety and bipolar are that people who are suffering with the symptoms of these labeled "phenomenas" are experiencing their brain reacting to negative life experiences. Therefore, when you apply that theory to superstars, it pretty simple to see a cause and effect relationship. The biggest pop stars appear to be the ones who experience it the worst. Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Kurt Cobain, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga, Kesha (she got famous really fast just like Gaga), and now the latest one seems to be Justin Bieber. Donna Summer was at the height of her career and talked about how maids walked in on her attempting suicide. Here's a list of some other pop stars with mental health related issues at some point (not saying these are all caused by fame): Paula Abdul - bulimia Brian Wilson (The Beach Boys) - mildly manic-depressive with schizoaffective disorder Barbra Streisand - Social phobia and anxiety Carly Simon - panic disorder Dolly Parton - depression Ozzy Osbourne - depression Marie Osmond - depression Donny Osmond - anxiety Sinead O' Connor - bipolar disorder Stevie Nicks - depression Alanis Morrisette - depression, anxiety Courtney Love - depression John Lennon - depression Elton John - depression Billy Joel - depression Aretha Franklin - anxiety disorder Sheryl Crow - depression Ray Charles - depression
LoveandMagic 1,731
Yeah, this seems pretty spot on. I know when Britney had her meltdown a lot of people blamed Kevin for her downfall, but truthfully it ran much deeper than that. With Britney, Mariah, and Gaga (and I'm sure others) there seems to be a pattern of over-working the artist. There's also a pattern of lifting them up high, turning them into a product only (and letting them know that) before pushing them down hard! I always feel bad when artists aren't allowed to invest in themselves creatively. If they've already put out big, lucrative commercial albums, then there should be no reason a label wouldn't allow them to create an album solely on their artistic vision. It's ridiculous. As for Born This Way, it was an amazing album and deserved the hype and praise it received from Gaga. It also did incredibly well for coming during Gaga's "decline" (not artistically though, she was actually getting better) and was definitely a success (no matter how much some would like to pretend otherwise). As much as I adore Judas and the video, I could see why she would prefer a song like Schiebe. It would definitely have made for an amazing single, whether it was accepted by a fickle GP or not. The songs she picked for singles were definitely some high-lights of the album. As amazing as BTW is though, I don't think we have seen the very peak of her abilities yet. I think her best album is yet to come! I'm glad to see everyone was able to turn things around and produce great work and find happiness long after being abandoned by everyone. I keep wondering when the media and GP will turn on Taylor and Katy, considering they like to tear down those with lots of success after putting them on a pedestal. It seems that both are "due" as it were. Considering the way people have treated the others, most recently Kesha, I am not looking forward to it. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."
monketsharona 81,913
Too soon to say Lady Gaga is struggling..; She has only underperformed with ONE album. And mostly because of internal issues in her team.. We'll know with next album if she's still selling good (or not)...
