I think Trump is attempting a typical conservative strategy by tapping into a societal fear of the "other" (in this case, Muslims -- in the past, it has been African-Americans, LGBTs, Hispanics, and other marginalized groups) in the hopes that it will garner him support. It has, in a small degree (I can't believe how many people I see on Facebook who actually agree with him...), but it looks like the backlash is greater than he anticipated. Because he's a moron.

What makes it ok to have other countries run the risk of the war you got everyone into?

It's even more ugly since you are perfectly aware that refugees aren't interested to go to the U.S. So you already run the lowest risk and you still want more privileged safety? That's just horrifying to me, especially when you're turning your back on innocent people (U.S. and non-U.S. residents) for a barely existing threat.

Banning all muslims from America wouldn't work, he's including immigrants and tourists and American muslims who are abroad. How do you ban American citizen from coming back into the country? Muslims are  of all races, so this would mean ban only the Middle Eastern looking ones? Definition of racism, land of the free my ***.

Not all muslims have obvious muslim names, some are converts, many are white European, many dress like any other Westerner, so please do tell us how will that work? There were even African muslims who lied that they are Christian to get asylum in Europe.

You have more chances to die from a white shooter at theater, school, church or abortion clinic than from an Isis terrorist. When will you deport all the white supremacists and christian fanatics like Dylan Roof and Planned Parenthood shooter? When will the white community clean own rows and root out all their extremists? You see how that works?

I'm sorry but a war the U.S. started? Iraq was already in turmoil and their leaders were already suppressing the Sunni minority in the country. If anything, the United States postponed the creation of ISIS. As for the Syrian civil war, we would have taken out Assad years ago if Europe didn't bitch about it and there would be a lot more moderate rebels to fight ISIS in Syria.

And it's not about privilege. That damn refugees are showing up at your damn borders. If you boast about how great the EU is, well it's time you show the world. The US doesn't ship Central American refugees to Europe, do we? No. And we have tens of millions of them.

Also, you calling ISIS a "barely existing threat" is why we have the rise of ISIS today. I have a feeling you and my president who called them a "JV squad" would get along. Do you also believe that the largest threat to national security is the weather, like Mr. Obama does?

We don't need to be the land of the free, we're at war. Even during our civil war (which we fought on our own soil and didn't flee the nation, btw) we imprisoned people who hadn't committed crimes. It's not unprecedented to roll back civil liberties during war.

Living in a major metropolitan city and having all my family living in the capital, I couldn't give less of a sh*t about political correctness at this time. They're too great of a risk to let into the country, and the president and congress need to restrict whatever they have to restrict in order to allow as few people as possible come into the country from select hostile countries until we have good faith that terrorists are no longer trying to use the refugee program to get in (like Homeland Security said they were yesterday).

At the end of the day, the government's top interest should be national security. The US government has the right to deny entry to any noncitizen based on literally any criteria it deems fit. That includes race, religion, and gender - whether you like it or not. If we wanted to we could reenact the Immigration Act of 1924 and that would solve all of our goddam problems lmao (taken we deliver a deathblow to the visa program as well, which terrorist have ALREADY taken advantage of to commit attacks in California)

As much as this is ridiculous, I think it's still very dangerous.  Trump is the frontrunner in the GOP race which tells you a lot about his millions of voters. I guess we'll have to see how he polls in the next week to see how this attack on Muslims was taken.

I'm enrolled in a university course about political Islam with several top scholars in the field, so don't give me that. I don't claim to know anything but I do know that the U.S. is far from blameless in letting the whole thing spiral out of control more than it had to. And delaying IS' creation? Entirely false, I don't even understand how you could come to that conclusion, especially when you mock Obama for not recognizing the risk in time.
