There will never be another Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston, notably at her prime, was such a premiere talent that Whitney Houston herself struggled towards the end of her life living up to such a high standard of singing. Houston could literally do any type of singing and do so flawlessly. As far as Adele being a Houston-like figure in terms of appeal, only someone white would think to say this. What bugged me about Rolling Stone comparing Justin Timberlake to Michael Jackson in 2003 and what grates me about Raible’s claim now is that there are certain factors at hand that makes it much easier for the likes of Justin Timberlake and Adele to have widespread appeal than Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston – no matter how successful the latter were in their respective careers. Adele will never have to know what it’s like to be marketed as a mainstream balladeer and face resentment from those who look like her – something Houston initially struggled with in the late 1980s. Houston made it easier for the likes of Beyoncé and Rihanna. If anything, I liken Adele to someone more like Celine Dion, and while I don’t want to strip her accomplishments away, Adele also benefits from our current climate of music. I always thought that that was a good but in reality it was a bad thing because people were doing it to drag her and portray her as a copycat. at least KISS saw it the way i did. Lost me there and I stopped reading. There's better ways to word this stuff than saying the white devil's trying to replace an icon with a white one. Especially since I've never even heard anyone compare the two... Whitney's voice will probably go unmatched for generations and like other members have pointed out before, Adele's voice is powerful but isn't refined and perfected. It's like an uncut diamond. Her vocals were powerful and her music was amazing. I like some of Adele's songs but they are nowhere near as grand as Whitney's music. That being said, Adele is her own artist and I'm sure she gets ticked off when people compare her to superior vocalists like Whitney, Celine, Mariah etc. Strangely enough I have never heard anybody compare Adele to Whitney unless I'm living under a rock.
