FlyingF 485
Forgive me everyone, but I am so confused about the relationship between the Countess and Valentino... throughout the season it has been hyped as a magical, great, true love that has lasted within Elizabeth for nearly one hundred years, but to me it seems they barely know one another. Re-watching episode seven, it makes me question whether or not Valentino loves Elizabeth... I always assumed the love went two ways, but Valentino has Natasha... also, it seemed that Gaga loved both Natasha and Valentino. So why now does she also cry for Valentino? Also, she looks older in the present day scenes, but would never have aged? I guess I just expected more from this 'great love' which seems to me to be more of a twisted three-way. I would love to hear your thoughts on this, lovelies :D

Stephen 30,431
It was a polygamous love I do wish they showed more of their time together before his "death". Maybe we'll see more flashbacks in the next episode?

Valentino "died" in 1926, Gaga was born in 1904, she's 22 in the flashbacks; to my understanding Valentino and Natasha "disappeared" before turning her, maybe she only transformed a few years later approaching her 30s, which is the age she looks now. I think there's more to her story before being turned into a vampire.

So confused

freebit 6,240
I feel like she thinks she loves Valentino, but it's more infatuation rooted in fangirl admiration. Also it might be mixed in with a longing for that moment in time where she felt perfectly happy - she did the impossible and began a relationship with a movie star, maybe discovered new things about her s-xuality (being into women), and basically lived a fantasy life with this ultra glamorous couple for a few months...all while being a simple plumber's daughter from Brooklyn. It probably made her feel incredibly special. As for Valentino I feel like this is a similar situation. Natacha is his longtime wife, and if you read up on her, she was credited as ruining his career IRL just as Elizabeth's friend Libby says (it also got to the point where she was banned from his movie sets because she was so controlling). So he has this domineering wife he's been with for quite a while, and then begins this new relationship with this naive girl who worships him, makes him feel even more special (and as I said before, never underestimate some dude's thirst for new p*ssy). During the scene in the crypt you can tell he's still at the new relationship phase when he feels the need to impress Elizabeth in telling her that he usually does all his own stunts. Natacha tells him they were both doing fine, but he "craved his little mouse" and when you're first with someone, you usually want to be around them all the time...hence why I think it's infatuation for him too. tl;dr: Elizabeth and Valentino's relationship was never allowed to grow stale or develop real problems aside from them being apart from each other, thus both probably idealize this relationship to the point where it seems like the most perfect love of all. Both remain in the honeymoon stage in each others minds. As for her looking older I feel like since she's permanantly stuck in her 20s the only way for her to visually assert sophistication and a sense of authority is to style herself that way (dresses in sober colors, heavy couture, lady-like suits etc). Dress for the job you want et. al.
