Morphine Prince 109,683 Posted November 5, 2015 Share Posted November 5, 2015 (CNN) - France is lifting its ban on men who have s-x with men from donating blood, the French health minister announced Wednesday."Giving blood is an act of generosity, of citizenship, which cannot be conditioned to s-xual orientation. While respecting complete patient safety, today we are ending a taboo and discrimination," the minister, Marisol Touraine, said in a speech.The change would be introduced gradually, she said, following extensive work by health authorities, patient associations and lesbian, gay, bis-xual, and transgender donors.By spring 2016, men who have s-x with men in France will be able to donate blood if they have not had s-x with another man for 12 months.Touraine said the 12-month deferral matched restrictions in place in other developed countries such as Australia, the Netherlands and Japan. I cant believe we have such strict anti-discrimination laws, we are always among the first to grant full rights in progressive ways including to LGBT... yet when it comes to blood donation some Provinces still discriminate. Thats so un-Canadian values The part I am mostly stuck with, can't they test blood no matter what ? Like even apart from MTM s-x, they reject blood donation for so many stupid reasons... That blood can have vital importance for someone who is dying... Please, someone, give me an explanation that these rejection reasons have an excuse other than government's not wanting to test more risky blood. No because gays are seen as a demographic that is more likely to have the HIV virus. But then if you think of it, there's more heteros-xuals with AIDS obviously since there are more heteros-xuals. They get tested and proven clean before the blood is provided and deemed ready for donation... SO the exact same can happen for Gay Men.
