UmbriaWitch 325
Well, there's always Rated R a.k.a. her best album ever. Mess. This just made me notice I meant to say Rated R, in the OP as an album she wrote, not R8
Bradley 57,126
Rihanna has an extremely unique and beautiful voice, I think her accent helps. I actually think she has a better voice than Gaga, despite Gaga being a better vocalist.Rihanna doesn't really write her own songs, but I think she has a huge involvement in the musical direction of her albums, tours, performances, etc. She tells people what she wants and they make it for her, so it still is kinda her visuals to some extent.Rihanna might not be able to deliver the vocals Gaga delivered in the Sound of Music tribute performance but she can still sing live, sometimes her voice cracks and she misses a lot of parts but most of the time she can be considered a decent live singer.Rihanna dances as well, I think people don't give her enough credit for that, she looks very s-xy when she dances, people should check out her Diamonds World Tour performances, showcased her dancing ability a lot. I don't think Katy is a better dancer than her tbh.Rihanna's love and interest for FASHION! is just as much as Gaga's. Rihanna's magazine covers and photo shoots are one of the best imo. She receives fashion related awards a lot, way more than Katy and Taylor.Rihanna, like Gaga is a decent actress.Rihanna doesn't use a lot of props for her performances/tours but she'll make sure she entertain you in some way. I mean at least she doesn't just stand in front of a mic and sing doing nothing else.

Bambino 24,059
She has a good voice and she makes songs that are loved by the GP and that all what matters in today's music business tbh. She's a pop singer, the GP doesn't care if she writes your own songs or not, imo, or if she's all creative and artistic, all they care about is she looking good and making hit songs. She doesn't have a lot of options, I don't know if it's because she can't do any better, or because in today's pop music scene, a pop singer who wants to be all about art and yet have massive success can have a messy era like ARTPOP, or a postponed era like ANTI. Raikov 183
Rihanna is a singer, so she offers her unique and easily recognizable voice. Music doesn't have to be about everyone having a "niche" to play to. Most singers of the 50s and 60s didn't write their own music. Most opera singers sure as hell don't. Rihanna's "thing" is having a unique voice, as well as a predilection for picking good pop hits.Madonna used outside songwriters for 4 out of Like a Virgin's 9 tracks. Jackson only wrote 3 of the songs on Off The Wall and 4 of the songs on Thriller. And they didn't produce on those albums either. So what did they offer on the tracks they didn't write? Their voice. Their attitude. And they curated which tracks would appear on the album. That's what any singer who doesn't write offers to their fans. I really wish we'd stop acting like writing songs is the be-all end-all for a pop star, when the truth is not everyone is cut out for writing music. Or that every pop star needs to dance. "Just" a singer is "just" enough.

Blueskye 1,087
Fun music (until recently) and a no f**** given attitude which is quite appealing for some reason.
craig 680
Rihanna is a first for black women, She shows they can make it as pop stars the same way as Britney Spears and Cheryl Cole do - by being gorgeous and having great songs. Why should black women all have to be amazing singers or dancers to be pop stars? teenagechrist 2,853
Not much actually. She has nice hits, a peculiar voice, and a nice appearence, but I think that that's pretty much it. feeling so hot tamale
elijahfan 24,876
What she has proven lately is that she's nothing without her hits. People won't follow her down more experimental roads, and given the way she has handled ANTI, we can see she has very little artistic integrity. Then again, there's a label behind who wants hits, so we can't put all the blame on her.
Whispering 18,865
She has a unique voice, is pretty, has gotten better at live singing. Rihanna had an excellent label and PR team, who made her the priority...year after year. They had the best in the business come for songwriting camps and write songs for her. She then went in and recorded the songs in a short period of time and the label was able to spit out album after album, year after year. Her team and label produced a hit maker. Now that she doesn't have this factory manufacturing hits and albums for her, she seems to be struggling.

She's gorgeous, has a nice and distinct voice, is a s-xy dancer, looks like a model in whatever she wears, and has tons of hits songs that can be played on Hip hop, R&B, and pop radio as well as the clubs. That's all most of the GP seem to want. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."
