This song is not satirical, at all. She genuinely wrote this song for her friend Donatella. It's a celebration of the superficial, not a mockery of it.

'Donatella' is an incredible crazy fun pop song with really raising electronic beats that I did with Zedd. It’s about being a fearless female and not caring what people say about you – being proud of who you are and walking the walk no matter what. Maybe she’s a b---h, maybe she’s too skinny, maybe she’s too rich, maybe she’s too out there. Or, maybe she’s brilliant, maybe she’s intelligent, maybe she’s strong, maybe she’s everything, maybe she’s Donatella.” - Just Jared Interview

Whether we want to admit it or not, Donatella is a dance song without an underlying commentary on pop culture. It's not referential to the dark satirical songs on The Fame, it's just a mediocre pop song.

I don't remember where she said it, but she also said the song was about what people thought Donatella is, and not what Donatella actually is.

It's similar to DWUW, in that the press makes up stories and personas that aren't real.

It would've done well. Idk why she choose GUY when most of the other songs are more radio friendly.

It is Satire

"I really wanted this to be about Donatella Versace and something that we  both have in common is this feeling of being misunderstood  but instead of hiting back at everybody about it, i'm sort of making fun about what they say about the both of us. Its just kinda of ludicrous and over the top and ridiculous sort of nothing that you'd never want anyone to write about you as a person but they write about us this way all the time, so instead of allowing it to make us feel smaller i'm shouting it from the roof-tops over this bone crushing beats"

uo111, I think the quote Blue Jean shared is the one you are referring to right?

Even with that explanation, I don't buy that it's satire. Satire is a tool for criticizing something, and when I hear that song I hear a hyperbolic but not critical celebration of their superficial life styles.

Gaga and Donatella both are curators of ridiculous public personas, their reputations and statuses as shallow glamours oddballs has been earned by their actions and statements, it's not a criticism the press made up on their own. ("I think glamour all the time. I wake up in the morning and I'm already thinking glamour" - Donatella. "I believe in the glamours life, and I live one." - Gaga)

I don't see why Gaga would write a song rejecting that persona and much as she would write a song amplifying that persona in a humors hyperbolic but not critical way.

It's worth noting that in the explanation for the song Donatella that I quoted earlier Gaga made it sound as if she worked on the instrumental with Zedd, even though the instrumental had already been used by another artist Zedd collaborate with. We know Gaga was rushed in the process of releasing ARTPOP, so I wouldn't be surprised if her explanations for some of the music on that record had some after-the-thought concept sprucing up in order to validate the record's weaknesses.

That is just my opinion though, feel free to disagree.

Still my second fave of the whole album, and the hate for it is blasphemous, nobody understands it's satire yet gets The Fame? Ok.

Should've been a single for sure, my friends love it too.

People don't dislike it because it's satire, they hate it because it's a horrible song.

Dangerous Man

Due to overwhelming demand,  we now announced Donatella as the 4th single of ARTPOP.  :derpga:

Gaga fans generally pull the satire-card in order to justify some of her less then thought provoking projects. In reality Donatella belongs with Starstruck, Jewels N' Drugs, So Happy I Could Die, and a few others on the pile of filler tracks that are fun to dance to but ultimately throw-away pop songs.

:excuseu: no :excuseu:

Ot: i had to re-listen to it again, I've heard it like twice or three times, all of them in the day AP was released. Forgot it ever existed the very same day :neyde: it is a fun little bop actually but... Too basic :trollga:

it wasn't laaaahv

That is just my opinion though, feel free to disagree.

I crop out most of long quotes to save space on the page, :kisses:

Anyways, she isn't criticizing Donatella or her "lavish" lifestyle. She is criticizing the way people view her, the lifestyle described in the song doesn't actually exist. I don't think Gaga would ever seriously promote anorexia. If that doesn't prove it's satire to you, nothing possibly could  To me, Donatella is one of the best songs on the album. I don't mind the reused instrumentals on AP, I never did. I always thought Gaga had more to do with the voice production and not the instrumental so having that confirmed wasn't a big deal to me. That's probably a discussion for another time though.

FRANK1991

I don't even care if the lyrics are satire or meaningless.

The track has crazy beats and amazing chorus! IT IS SUCH A BOP! Performing live at the artRAVE was insane!

and I don't get why people all saying Aura has great chorus but say Donatella chorus is terrible when they are both epic

Cause once you let it go you better know it's gone

SISTERV

It was used as the theme song for that show Rich Kids of L.A. on E!

It was also used on MTV for several of their ads.

I have been to several parties where I heard it play.

My friends that hate Lady Gaga say they love this song (my friends Taylor and Sean bought it for their iPods)

It is catchy, fun, b---hy, and easy to digest while still pandering to gays and girls on the dance floor.

The haters shall seethe as Donatella remains a great pop song that could have easily gone Top 5.

:bye:
