JusKeepBreathin 19,311
If we are talking about vocal talents, it's no contest. I love Gaga dearly, but preferences aside, Cyndi's octave range and abilities as a vocalist trump Gaga's. Gaga relies on theatrical vocal affections to make her voice seem more impressive then it is, Cyndi on the other hand has soul, something that Gaga will never have or be able to replicate. Cyndi possess skills that Gaga does not, and Gaga possess skills that Gaga does not, but to say one is "nowhere near" as talented as the other is ridiculous. They are both supremely talented artists, not everything has to be a pissing contest. I'm a huge Gaga fan so this is not hate. I do agree Cyndi is spectacular not just in singing, but her song writing abilities are also better; she is just more polished. I mean Tony award winning Kinky Boots hello. I also think Gaga shares a huge respect that most of us do for Cyndi's amazing talent. JusKeepBreathin 19,311
This isn't a second account. I made a post like this in July. You know my posts, you both comment on them a lot. I do "On This Day in Music History", a lot of chart posts, and recently made the "Do You Miss Kesha Thread". If you go back in my topic history you will find ten pages of threads I've created and only ONE has dealt with this subject. So sorry to break ur conspiracy theory. The Gaga/Cyndi Illuminati doesn't exist on this site Don't worry love...TBH I don't think its a second account of yours. Sister 9,907
I have never enjoyed Cyndi Lauper, but I can say that she is talented. I feel like Gaga is more important to the music scene than Cyndi Lauper has ever been, she kind of had a moment and fell to the background, even though she was talented.I feel like Gaga will never be put into the background, even if she doesn't stay on top by popularity, she'll still have a place out front and be center, more like Madonna, for loss of another to compare. For one to know anything about Cyndi Lauper, you have to be a hardcore fan or simply wonder and look her up, with Madonna , you always hear about, whether you want to or not and I feel like Gaga is going to always be that way too. The future's uncertain and the end is always near.
Dark Anatomy 2,284
Kety = Madonna Cyndi = Gagz my poor fave That actually makes so much sense. One of them can barely hold a note and is crammed so far up the current trend she appeals to youth more than people her own age, while there other is an out of this world vocalist and songwriter who is always going against the grain. TimisaMonster 31,073
Album sales THEN and NOW can't be compared...Plus, Cyndi wasn't really known for much except a few songs...She was NOWHERE near Gaga's level of fame and popularityGaga even at her lowest era was still more popular Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify! PMKKARDASHiAN 8,570
This isn't based on sales even tho it's the main argument in the OP, it's based on popularity with sales as evidence? I've always wondered if gaga would be the madonna/britney or the cyndi/christina of her time. Granted, all women have influenced music and become legends in their own right, but when 2 pop women rise to fame around the same time, one always seems to prevail as the bigger of the 2. Madonna was the bigger act between her and cyndi, and britney was the bigger name of her and christina. The absolute only difference with gaga is that her storm into the entertainment world and total world domination during her peak cannot and has not been matched by Katy, riri or Taylor. Gaga galvanized the world, and was a true force, she changed the music industry, the fashion trends, and took over pop culture. While Katy and Taylor have had more #1s I don't think they've come close to her impact, so for me, no, gaga will not be this gens cyndi while another girl is the madonna. Gaga has become and will remain a legend, she's in the same league with madonna, Whitney, Mariah, britney, and I can't completely say Katy and the others are... AbuHassan1992 766
contrary to what a lot of people here always seem to think, history doesn't repeat itself every 30 years. and is it really necessary to bash Katy Perry and Taylor swift like that? why so hateful? Fiona Apple 13,006
It's actually quite sad that 14 out of 91 people here believe that Gaga's next album will be an absolute disaster

I mean Tony award winning Kinky Boots hello.I also think Gaga shares a huge respect that most of us do for Cyndi's amazing talent.Cyndi's historic Tony win for song writing, and the fact that her music is still regularly played on the radio thirty years after it was originally released cements her status as a gifted song writer. If you look through Gaga's catalog of songs, I don't know if she has written a hit song with the same universal appeal as something like Time After Time.I love them both very much. Can you imagine what an incredible dance song they could create together? Cyndi's perennial lyrics and howling vocals, Gaga's theatrics and niche perspective. It would be magic. JusKeepBreathin 19,311
No, gaga has made a cultural impact while Cyndi's only is "girls just wanna have fun"that's like saying Gaga is just "Poker Face." I love Gaga, but there is a lot wrong with this comment. JusKeepBreathin 19,311
Come on Gaga is already 10 times more important for the pop culture/music than Cyndiin pop culture today, yes, but Cyndi's importance in pop culture in the 80's is on par with Gaga today and even the message is similar when you think of songs like, True Colors Vs Born This Way. Both had a huge impact on pop culture. Manul 7,377
The one thing that makes these comparisons inaccurate imo, is the time it took said artists to accomplish their feats. Where both Cindy and Madonna have accomplished theirs through 30 years and then some, Gaga is doing it in less than 10, and against the odds if i might add (general album sales decline since 2000s, general oversaturation of anyone in the industry, her ex manager, etc). it wasn't laaaahv
