Her fashion may almost be the same but her music is always changing and evolving. :smh:

Mess of an article.

her evolution:

I Kissed a Girl - Teenage Dream - Roar

people asking whether it was written by gagz or not? i know it's supposed to be a joke, but it's not funny. gagz would never ever write "an article" like this. :koons: her approach would be more complex and her language use would be more sophisticated.

anyway, this is the kind of journalism i hate. this is not an argumentative piece of writing, this is a fully biased and subjective "article." it lacks logic and is unnecessarily harsh.

i don't like katy as an artist, but i don't have a problem with her as an entertainer. she doesn't want to be more than that, does she? then WTF?

if you hurt taylor swift, i'll hurt you back

This article is actually the definition of pointlessness. Yes, it is Katy's brand. The end. Whether or not you think that brand is foolish or boring is a matter of opinion that is in itself quite irrelevant since the brand is obviously attracting a lot of people and therefore is successful on its own level. Any critical approach to that objective fact just reveals an inflated ego on the part of the writer and nearly every member here since they present a very well known truth (that Katy's brand is exactly what they described it to be) as an insult - completely unnecessary.

Also:

"Taylor Swift pushes us to embrace vulnerability and femininity"

What kind of bs.

I get that a lot of people enjoy this article but that still doesn't change the fact that Katy chooses to address a public and their needs that exist and that desire someone to cater to it. Just like Gaga banked (deliberately or not - that doesn't even matter) on the people who are willing to give money to an artist because they align with their ideals, in her case people who love theatricality and like to believe they're idolising an "avant-garde" artist even though they're still listening to quite unchallenging music that really isn't that more unique than a popular chocolate bar with some extra nuts in it. The fact that most people who don't like Gaga reject her antics and "avant-garde" sensibility as empty, fake and opportunistic should be proof enough that Gaga isn't protected either from the same logic in this article that most people here are praising as accurate.

The idea that pop artists have to be avant-garde or challenging sadly defeats itself on multiple levels. Only one example: I see people posting here that criticized Miley in the most dramatic language for making a pretty straightforward visual statement about body hair on females. So the conclusion of the article and everyone who agrees with it is basically unconsciously proving their own stupidity, sadly. But as this thread proves, there is a very hungry public just dying for this kind of nonsensical, empty and pointless sensationalism disguised as intellectual inquiry, so I guess the article itself isn't very different from Katy after all..

I've been saying this for years. Her songs are literally the definition of generic pop. They're safe, danceable, and you don't have to think for nearly 4 minutes because with the presentation and production and everything it's all so simple. Her whole career is based on going to producers and songwriters for hits, then throwing some cartoon/cutesy childhood imagery in the mix and delivering with an average voice. She is not creating conversation of any kind or any cultural influence through her boring songs and "concepts."

There's no need for a Katy, that's what one hit wonders do in pop music. They serve the catchy meaningless songs and we throw them away as potential celebrity personalities because they aren't interesting. Why hasnt this happened to her? Her team and PR keep her alive through promotion and Twitter. I'm not gonna say her boobs are a reason for her success but they didn't hurt, lol.

The worst part about this article is the fact that everything he said is true :spook:

Maybe the "point" of Katy is to be easily accessible and lighthearted? The article told no lies, but realistically Katy does fill in that part of the market.

Considering the ampumt of backlash a female pop star gets for a nip slip and that Miley was still labeled as nothing but a slut merely 2 years ago, I would say no.

the real feminist artists and singers are not encouraged in the pop world

What kind of journalism :toofunny::toofunny::toofunny::toofunny:  Building on a feud that is no more. Just let each be tbh, they're begging for that controversy. BUT I kind of agree with the fact that she hasn't shown much growth in songwriting (in terms of musical topics)

They never spoke about a feud in this article. Someone must of not read the article.

In other news, I do like how they didn't even have to use Gaga in this whole article to read the crap out of her.

Taking a break from the public doesn't mean getting a job at NY Mag Taylor!

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

There are actually a lot of self proclaimed feminists in the pop world.
