After getting slammed for her comment on The View on Oct. 9 that she wouldn’t hire someone with a "ghetto" name, Raven-Symone issued an apology late Sunday night on her Facebook page.

UGH, seeing her reputation get punctured like this is painful. :air:

I wanted her to forever stay as, "the girl from that's so raven omg i love her!"

You don't deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you.

didn't she also say she wasn't black?

No. She said she didn't label herself as "African American," just American.

I see her point on that. White people in America almost NEVER call themselves "Eruropean American," it sounds ridiculous saying it. Some who have recent immigrants still do it or just simply strong ancestral heritage. Kind of how Gaga calls herself "Italian American" but she isn't actually Italian.

Raven was saying how you can just call yourself American and don't have to attach anything to it because we are all American.

Plus, if you think of it black Americans are 100% American and have no connection to Africa whatsoever.

Whites have the privilege of saying they're American without someone questioning them where their family or ancestors are from.

I agree mostly, but drop the whole "privilege" trend--I'm sure you're trying to be less abrasive to the social justice warriors on here.

It's not Nazi Germany; getting asked where your family or ancestors are from isn't exactly a pitfall anyone has to "suffer".

Not only that, but I would imagine white people would be asked the same thing. It's not as if their ancestors were born here either, unless they are Native American.

A lot of people outside the U.S. seem to find it weird when Americans say, "I'm [Blank]-American". There's this giant focus on ethnicity versus nationality in the U.S., not because we are more racist, but because we are trying so damn hard to be politically correct. I understand and am used to the culture of trying to maintain a separate identity by sub-categorizing your American citizenship, but practically speaking, it doesn't exactly fit liberal ideologies that all young people try to claim as being superior.
