so what ur saying is dont provide care once ppl reach 80?

and its bit just age. If u live healthy lifestyles u dont necessairily live longer in a hospital. Really healthy people lives to like 90s then die peacefully in their sleep

revolutions in organ replacement etc could result in lif expectancy surpassing 100 at one point

this would be great. As we advance we have to live longer...

Oir scientists and engeneers have ever more to learn with each generation. More jobs now than ever require more years in school.

over the long term, to have time to teach younger generations and then have them work long enough to continue to advance society, we must have more years in our life-span

Not necessarily putting a limit at a certain age, but putting a limit at a certain amount of money spent after a certain age. It's not worth 50k+ a year to keep somebody alive (stephen hawking is the exception). If we want to advance society, we have to set our priorities straight and giving the best healthcare no matter what is less important than giving the best education.

And (unless you have a heart attack), you don't really just die in bed. You probably had a very long disease, like my grandma. She spent 5 years in a hospital due to Parkinson and she couldn't do anything. What a waste of money and time. Let someone die respectfully and let the person who dies live with it. And this doesn't apply to people who have a bright future, like a classmate with anorexia nervosa, or one with a brain tumor. Those should get the best healthcare. But at a certain age you have to think: is it worth it to keep this person 'alive'?

first of all many really old ppl die in their sleep. Their heart stops

secondly i think that should be up to the patient. If they want doctor assisted soicide great. I do not think they should be denied care tho

im surprised u of all ppl would advocate like that considering ur more left-winged than me and often talk about more social assistance

i do think it is a financial drain. However offerig care abd not to another cause they are old i think is evil

There needs to be more investment in prevention by encouraging healthy lifestyles

additionally another way to reduce financial burden of aging population is to simply raise retirement age a little bit. 65 is kind of out of date

There is no prevention to death and disease. The only thing you can do is delay it.

And sorry for having a controversial opinion, I think this subject is a bit of a taboo... but healthcare costs are simply too high. I want people to have a great and happy life, but at some point you've got to stop. There's also a certain amount of money that a human life is actually worth. Money needs to be spent wisely (and I know you agree). If someone is 83 and diagnosed something, it's not worth it to spend 70k a year to delay that somebody's death, because you're not going to earn back that 70k from that person.

what :what:

I though americans were the people struggling with this. Most Europeans were healthy (besides smoking) in my mind/when I talk to people who live in Europe.

So this is another germany praising thread or ? :koons:

I think this affects all of europe?

It's not a comparison thread to US. It just Europe now vs. Europe past. Nothing to do with America

i wasn't comparing, the stereotype of Europe is that they are more healthy than Americans. Most europeans make fun of america because if our problems. As an American I am shocked to see that high number for Europeans and the low life expectancy.

thats what i say about retirement age or certain other things yet ppl complain

i guess im just accustomed to everyone getting good care regardless of age. The idea of telling someone "your too old to justify the cost of this operation" makes me uncomfortable :air:

emphasis on healthcare here in Canada is so deep rooted that even the Conservative Government (currently in power for 10 years) doesnt dare to suggest making cuts or taking away any benefits to anyone

ive been corrupted :rip:

No. 67 or 68. Only Countries with REALLY bad demographics like Japan would have to do 70

With average life spans in most developed nations at 80, even a 3 year hike would reduce average pension collection times by 20%

thats enough to help compensate the aging population and shrinking productive capacity from shrinking labor force

Yes okay but it might work some people that actually like their job but how depressing if you have the most boring job ever... we know job distribution will never be fair and there will always be losers

you work your whole life. 2 or 3 extra years wont kill u. If it helps the economy and financnes i think its worth it

if u dont raise it as ppl keeps aging, eventually both taxes and pension deduction premiums will have to go up a lot

dont forget, ppl working share their purchasing power through pension deductions to pay for people doing nothing and taxes to pay for services people not working also take advantage

im not against retirement... But the age must reflect reality. And retirement age in most Countries hasnt been adjusted in a long time. Its outdated

I think work is not reflecting reality when it comes to actually living your life, simple as that. Like that's "the choice" we are given but there is no choice given to us so I think indeed it is questionnable to consider the whole system and pension included. Economy seems the only thing taken into account when talking about work and pension but honestly that's not the main focus of many people in life. They don't even know how it works and that's totally unfair
