giskardsb 12,565
This is an interesting statement a number of people have made. I mean, obviously those of us who have been around long enough have heard disco in it's original form and this song in particular, and the arrangement is not noticeably different than the original. Most of GGD legitimately may never have heard the song before and may have little experience with the original disco from the 70's.However, my conclusion is that the real reason it sounds "fresh" is because it has a vibrance and life to it.... because it's made with live instrumentation. Guitar by Niles Rodgers, drums, bass, even the strings sound real. To me this points out the biggest problem in much modern pop.... because much of it is all put together on a computer, it lacks the changes in dynamics, phrasing, and timing that make IWYL "groove". Music played by real people has the life in it that is caused by the feel of individual players. Each player adds his own thing but works as part of the collective to make the song. Music produced directly on the computer often is too high quantized, giving it that robotic pulse and feel that is part of a lot of modern pop. Individual instruments often lack dynamics and variation, and since the whole thing is put together by a single producer it suffers from too much of a single point of view on how "instruments" are played.Live musicians for LG5 should be the standard, IMO. It's so much better.
Red 97,519
I don't think it sounds fresh at all But I don't see the problem in it, fresh and good aren't synonyms. If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
I think a combination of organic and computerized instrumental gives it a unique and fresh perspective, and it gives her voice more of a chance to shine.
Serendipity 7,821
Yes, true, music made on real instruments gives a cosier feel than a synthetic beatGaga makes most of her songs on piano, so her music feels cosy to me See talent here-->http://bit.ly/2eqeUxK
Bradley 58,652
I totally agree with your entire post. This quality needs to be on LG5. I think one of the biggest issues of Madeon's productions is he lacks so much of this. His music is just too computerized and it just doesn't sound like music anymore. As much as I love these songs, Mary Jane Holland and Gypsy sound so much better live. Thank God he didn't ruin too much of Venus, Gaga kept Venus alive. Supersonic 49,376
I don't think so at all, there's lots of pop music that is not "computerized" or digitial. Adele, Sam Smith, Ellie Goulding pre-Burn and that pseudo disco "I Can't Feel My Face" song come to my mind. Actually I'm kind of sick of people being obsessed with "real music" again, I want the synthesizers back

Swan Heart 7,382
Computers aren't the problem. People are.“I find it so amazing when people tell me that electronic music has not got soul and they blame the computers. They got their finger and point at the computers like, 'There's no soul here!' It's like, you can't blame the computer. If there's not soul in the music, it's because nobody put it there. And it's not the tool’s fault.” They say it's the last song. They don't know us, you see. It's only the last song if we let it be.

lego 44,165
She needs live instruments on LG5, for a change. I don't care about others, it's always different with her. FreePalestine
