I'm seriously disturbed to think that there are a die-hard Gaga fans who believe her Warhol references are simply limited to the ARTPOP era. Her whole career has been built around him! Please recall the "Glitter and Grease" segment of the Monster Ball tour, which was 100% inspired by Warhol's 'Death and Disaster' series screenprints.

You're totally right! Gaga is inspired by various artists and it shows in her work (such as the Salvador Dali reference in the FAME Advertisement) and throughout her career she has had elements from Andy. I read something from GQ Magazine about Tom Ford and Andy Warhol and it proves that you are correct.

A quick history lesson...

- Andy Warhol was a staple of NYC's Studio 54 night club scene.

- Chic was also at their peak during the Studio 54 era. Their biggest hit, "Le Freak" was written as a "**** you" to Studio 54 after Nile Rodgers was rejected at the door and went home, did a bunch of coke and wrote the song originally as "ahhhhh, **** off" (instead of the version released "ahhhhh, Freak out")

Gaga + Nile Rodgers doing a disco fashion show YouTube video with a Warhol lookalike is absolutely no fashion coincidence.

thank you for this. i love knowing about these things.

...which also makes her the embodiment of a NYC pop star. #MarryTheNight

beautifully put.

OT: don't waste your time talking about the warholian ideals to these ignorant little complainers, they dragged ARTPOP as hard as they could. new threads detailing its basicness were created almost every day. it was, and still is, disgusting and disrespectful. on a positive note, i'm happy that there are members like you. :nick:

That's deep.

I was referring to Funk The Punk as the new single thing. Don't embarrass yourself. :rip:

I can't believe that a thread like this, with such a cool observation that inspired such an interesting discussion and examination of Gaga's work and its context in pop culture, would be met with such  hostility and immature "stan" commentary. FFS, why are you even here if you just want to ridicule Gaga and her fans for the very reason that they're here?

I was so let down by that. I thought it's a new era. Let's move on, Gags.
