Dramatica 13,681
I do agree. I didn't ask for a free ride, I only asked you to show me a real good time.
Mast 980
What he said was stupid and he's trying g to backpedal. Shut you mouth about something you know nothing about Except he know what he's talking about tho, because he's an actor. Acting is his industry. And he's right. Once you come out, you start getting type-cast by directors and it's hard to get out of it. For example, Bret Easton Ellis said that Matt Bomer wasn't right for 50 Shades because he's openly gay. NewUsername 11,346
I get what he was trying to say in relation to the mystery actors hold in real life, but he's really just promoting heteronormativity despite his intentions - we assume people are straight unless stated otherwise, that's not upholding a "mystery". worded perfectly
Bette Davis 12,742
Sexuality shouldn't be related to what characters you can and cannot play. Your personality and talent should decide, and being LGBT doesn't define your personality or talent. The only way for people to stop typecasting LGBT actors is by having them come out instead of asking them to keep quiet and let people assume they are straight. Acting is their job, they shouldn't have to act in real life as well. Things have already changed fairly quickly considering only a few years ago gays were almost always shown like this: Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet. LoveandMagic 1,731
As a culture, we are obsessed with our celebrities. This has been going strong since the "talkies" and isn't likely to fade anytime soon. There are so many trashy gossip mags that make such a killing because people have to know every little detail about celeb's personal lives. Because of this, an actor's image can become EVERYTHING. I can see why so many actors would want to hide their s-xuality, it can potentially cost them roles in a HIGHLY competitive and superficial industry. Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."
