luckythisway 2,610
The ignorance MJ is what defines Pop Music as a whole Otherwise he wouldn't be named "The King of Pop" is Madonna not recognized as the Queen of Pop? The ignorance is you not realizing that she is the ultimate female popstar And anyway, when I talk to my dad, someone who was alive and fully aware in the 80's, about stuff like this, he always talks about how MJ started to get weird with his behavior after Thriller. Like most normal people, he doesn't know/wasn't aware about sales because he is not a chart freak like most of the members of this forum. And those sales/records don't completely make an artist defining. All in all, Madonna is just as worthy as being called the icon of the 80's over MJ because most people from that remember his negative things and how he never returned to his peak

FGGrayson 9,670
lol, what? Kurt and Nirvana helped define the alternative rock genre and evolved rock out of the 80s hair metal era. The cultural impact was huge and undeniable - it even influenced the fashion of the decade. Kurt/Nirvana are by far more synonymous with the 90s than Madonna. Madonna made more of an impact in the 80s than she did in the 90s. Kurt Cobain and Nirvana were responsible for the grunge/alternative rock music scene that exploded in 1991 as a result of their sophomore album Nevermind. Nirvana made cardigan sweaters, light blue jeans, and flannels a fashion craze that lasted well into 1997! Now, those fashions weren't as strong in 1997 as they were through 1995 but people were still making references to grunge fashion in the late 90s. Alternative/grunge became mainstream thanks to Nirvana. Eminem: Eminem is the best-selling hip-hop artist of all-time[1] and the best-selling artist of the 2000s[2] with US album sales at over 32.2 million during the decade.[3] In total, with 2 digital Diamond albums and 4 albums with 5 platinum and 2 with 2 platinum. Eminem has sold 50.1 million albums in the United States as a solo artist and with 2 digital diamonds and 4 singles with triple platinum and 10 songs with one platinum and other features he has over 46 million digital singles.[4][5] His worldwide albums and singles sales stand at more than 155 million.[6] He has earned forty-two platinum certifications, five number one singles and six number one albums from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[A] In this discography, music videos and collaborations are included as well.
