What massive rock is everyone living under to not know Grace Jones :rip:

Obviously not the same rock you are living under, thinking that the average person knows who this artist that hasn't had a significant hit or massive album is. There are a lot of people out there that don't care about music played in the clubs and who don't commit every person by name to memory that was ever in a James Bond movie. Some people don't even watch James Bond movies...or might not have seen all of them over the last fifty of so years. There has been over twenty movies. Some people aren't huge fans.

I'm not a teen, but just for fun I asked my parent and grandparents if they knew who Grace Jones was. They didn't, but they know who Gaga is.

I know they have seen James Bond movies, so maybe if they saw the one she was in, they would recognize her...but they don't know her name. That was almost thirty years ago, after all.

Yep, I only know her from A View To A Kill, only because it's my favourite Bond movie.

She can be icon, legend whatever. I just never cared about her.

She still has no reason to be this rude about Gaga.

I'm not a huge fan of Grace Jones, I just can't actually believe there are people here (and their parents :rip: ) who have not heard of Grace Jones.

Y'all are crazy. Next you'll all say you haven't heard of Madonna or Michael Jackson :sharon:

He meant to say unapologetic.

As in she wasn't scared to make music that's appealing and catered to the gays.

Well, I guess you should believe it, because there are lots of people here (some who aren't teens) who are telling you they don't know who she is, or that they aren't familiar with her music.

Nope. Everyone knows the names MJ or Madonna....Grace Jones isn't in the same category.

If you like Lady Gaga enough to join a forum dedicated to discussing her music and art, you'd think understanding what artists she draws inspiration from would be something that interests you.

Leigh Bowery like Grace Jones never had a hit, but his influence on Gaga's work is massive. Having a hit is totally irrelevant and it's weird that people keep bringing it up.

Dont.

It was a typo, I meant unapologetically.

You guys have to stop with the Grace hate. She's actually speaking the truth and does deserve more credit. Look her up her music is amazing and hyper creative.

Grace Jones is a great artist. Many of us are not commenting on her artistry though but rather her personality and attitude which, at least lately, seems to be arrogant and conceited.

Im blonde, I'm skinny, I'm rich, and I'm a little bit of a bitch.

Eh, we have people here who don't even care much for Gaga...or really not at all. We have people here who are new fans or casual fans. Who cares? There isn't some quiz to sign up! Lol

lmao, i'm sorry but there's no such thing as gay music or music that's "appealing to the gays." gagz pledged allegiance to the gay community because she feels compassionate about their issues: identity, liberty, etc. saying that she makes her music gay to use them is ridiculous on so many levels.

Seems crazy. Especially considering the fact you can type her name into Google News and she still fills up a whole page of news and reports in just one month. She's clearly still a topic on the table for many. Only way I can rationalize this is that she had a different level of impact in different areas because a large majority of people in the U.K. would know her. She still gets on prime time talk shows on the weekend if she's up to something.

There's also a lot of people here who actually know her, especially now some of you are pleading ignorance to knowing her :rip:

I'd argue she is definitely in their league, but if you disagree, that's fine. You clearly don't know much about her otherwise you'd be sat laughing at your own replies :sharon:

just cause she isn't known as u think doesn't mean people live under the rock. Maybe she is just popular in your country or something

Perception is reality.

And what people are perceiving of Grace Jones

Is her piss poor attitude is overshadowing her costumes and any accomplishment.

At best she will have a small paragraph in a history book , and equally remembered by not embracing someone who wanted to carry on her tradition and work with her.
