Gaga's is the better version just because...well it is...it had full instrumental accompaniment, it's sung theatrically, it pays homage to the original, yet still has an individual flare, plus it seems to be way more emotional than Madonna's which just has her and a guitar singing it like a pop song  No saying Madonna's version is bad, it's just no contest that Gaga's is better.

Anyone know why Madonna chose to sing it? Like, has she sung it before, did she add it 'cause Gaga did it, or is it just a total coincidence?

The pessimistic side of me says that she added it to spite Gaga and try to one-up her (sort of like a replacement for the MDNA segment of EY-BTW-SNM). The optimist in me says she's just randomly singing it.

I don't know the reason for it but Madonna (if I remember correctly) mentioned la vie en rose before Gaga sang it, so it was probably nothing more than a coincidence  . At least, I don't think she was intentionally looking to draw connections to Gaga vocally because that's the one battle that Madonna could never win  

OT: Gaga's is clearly the vocally more impressive version, I prefer the feeling (?) in Madonna's but that's not the question
