Didymus 34,380
Since quoted articles often prove to be a tedious read for a lot of GGD, here's a quick summary: - Israel's 47 Catholic schools have been on strike since last Tuesday (the start of the school year) to protest government budget cuts - Today, nearly half a million Israeli Arab students studying at Arab schools are on strike today as well to support them, because; - The church schools suffering from budget cuts educate about 300.000 Arabs - The Catholic schools are not part of the state school system, but get 75% of the funding given to regular schools - the remainder comes from tuition payments; these schools have Christian and Arab students - Since the first protest there has been no progress - The Israeli Education Ministry urges the Catholic schools to join the state system, which is deemed unacceptable by the head of Christian school principals, Father Abdel Messih who calls it an act of expropriation - In the protest, reference is made to the high level of education at these schools and the success of Arab students during their tuition and afterwards; the Arab community identifies these schools as the best for Arabs in Israel - Israel has been cutting in the schools' budget for six years, especially the last two, while also limiting the amount of tuition they are allowed to charge - a combination that can only be described as a deliberate death blow - The Catholic schools also argue that they are the victim of discrimination: the two main ultra-Orthodox Jewish school systems receive 100% of the funding given to regular state schools - These privileged Jewish school systems refuse to teach basic subjects such as English and mathematics - The Catholic schools are demanding 200 million shekels a year - so far the Ministry only offers 20 Full article: http://www.haaretz.com/news/israel/.premium-1.674820 Thoughts? Ronlop 6,882
Alot of things happened with the new government actually. Not only towards the Israeli Arabs community. There is, undoubtedly, an unfair finance division in Israel. Now even more than previous years, mainly due to this new government.
Bette Davis 12,742
Why don't they spend less money bulldozing down Palestinian villages and spend more on education? Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.

Israel spent $23 billion on their military in 2014, yet are cutting funds on education. If you can't see how that is related then I do know what to tell you. Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.
