Yes, that true for Janet post-1996, the period Britney was active. Janet was a big pop-dance and new jack swing artist in late 80's and early 90's (when Britney was most impressionable).

Oh wow, I never noticed the similarities! I knew Britney had her listed as an influence on MTV.com, but beyond that not much else. Pretty cool. :)
