Cody Draco 2,531
She gets her fair share of criticism from the rap world, but one of the godfathers of hip-hop has firmly positioned himself on Team Iggy Azalea. Speaking to Daily Mail Australia on Friday in Sydney as he promoted Straight Outta Compton alongside his son O'Shea Jackson Jr, 24, Ice Cube backed the Australian and her hits. 'She make dope songs, that's what it is all about,' the former N.W.A star said. The legendary performer's comments come after his old friend and fellow West Coast stalwart Snoop Dogg engaged in an online feud with Iggy, criticising her looks and her talents. He wasn't the only one to try and star some beef with the Mullumbimby beauty with Nicki Minaj looking as if she was throwing some shade Iggy's way with her BET Awards Best Female Hip-Hop Artist acceptance speech earlier this year. 'What I want the world to know about Nicki Minaj is when you hear Nicki Minaj spit, Nicki Minaj wrote it,' she said but later denied this was in reference to the Black Widow singer. But Ice Cube told Daily Mail Australia that it shouldn't matter either way because her tunes are on fire. 'It's not about how the song gets made, it's about what comes out of the speaker,' he said. 'If she can be hot coming out of the speaker, who cares what it took to make it. Known for his song writing skills that can be seen in the box office smash movie Straight Outta Compton when he helps Eazy E with his big break into the music world, Ice Cube says 'songs by committee' are the norm. 'It's a difference between a rapper and an MC. Some MCs are battle rappers and they need to write their own lyrics but if you are just rapping out there, songs by committee have been the history of music. 'Every great song that you hear has probably been put together by a few people, not just one soul,' he added. While his son O'Shea, who steps into his father's shoes and takes on his character in the hit film, also seems to be firm fan but because of Iggy's basketballer fiancé, Nick Young. 'And she's dating a Laker so…' he laughed. StrawberryBlond 14,087
Well, I definitely don't agree with what he says about as long as the music is good, it doesn't matter who made it. I think writers deserve credit and we should know for sure if an artist writes or not. But I agree with his saying that she's good. People want to label Iggy as the anti-Christ just because she's white and it's despicable. She's better than some black female rappers out there. I wouldn't say she was the best, but she's one of the better ones. Her flow is great and I'm not the only one to say that. A lot of female rappers just can't make good albums these days but The New Classic was the first one in 9 years that I ranked as above average (the re-issue pushed it up to a "very good"). And for that reason, this girl's in my good books. I didn't even set out to like her. I'm sure Ice Cube likes some of her golden age of hip hop inspirations with songs like We In This B***h and rock elements in Goddess and Heavy Crown. It makes her stand out from the other females. And iggy doesn't sing, she just raps, unlike Nicki. Nicki changed herself and her music to make her more acceptable to a white crowd but Iggy has never sang and has remained true to her genre by not releasing any generic dance pop to get an easy hit. And yet she's the villain and not real rap.
