swordstalker 1,829
Can someone explain why the Bad Romance MV is considered Gaga's magnum opus? I've watched it like a billion times, and I can appreciate the fame symbolism, plot and the iconic Alexander McQueen outfit in the bridge. However, I fail to see how it's superior to what I consider the Gaga MV trifecta: Applause, Telephone and Marry the Night. They were all remarkable in their own way (Applause had stunning cinematography and fashion, Telephone was so quirky, had a great plot and looks, and MTN has some of her best choreography and the autobiographical aspect of it was incredibly poignant). Although it's a very well-done MV, I don't see how BR is remarkable in any way. Was it just because Gaga was at her peak popularity then or because the actual song is the quintessential Gaga hit and the MV rode along with the success? Or is there something that I haven't noticed or can't appreciate?
SlaeUrAnus 15,969
Applause? Bad Romance was so acclaimed because she came out all guns blazing when no one knew much about her. The cinematography, graphics/visuals, choreography and plot were something that we have not seen much since Thriller. It single handedly brought back performance POP. Furthermore, it was released when Gaga was the biggest force in the music industry. A signature video for a signature hit and album. In my messy era. Versace 7,971
BR's video is ICONIC, the dance moves, the flames, the outfits, the song itself, everything really. BR's video isn't some massive movie production but it's so original and unique at a time where it was hard to make an original concept video. All the Gaga videos you listed were hugely inspired where as BR's video is Gaga saying **** why don't we do this and that.
Knife 6,888
It's the hard-hitting beat of the song, the choreography being simple but effective, the visuals are all striking and graphic - everything was executed perfectly. I remember being instantly SLAYED the first time I saw it and it gets to the part of the video where the chorus starts and the lights flash on. I miss those days. mariomania1234 11,368
The song, visuals, choreography, cinematography, outfits. That was some next-level ****.It ushered in a new era of pop and pop music videos.
SISTERV 3,887
It is just the content but the context. Even now, it would be a huge video and see Blank Space/Wrecking Ball numbers, but back then when youtube was still young and pop music was still bland, it held a cultural prominence that no one has been able to touch. Every artist in pop today would say that video inspired their aesthetic to this day. That's rare. Especially in pop where everyone imitates each other. Make sense? GloZell Green 11,723
Because it's iconic. The fashion, plot, visuals, and the dog alone are flawless The choreo was amazing too, everyone wanted to learn the moves Lady Gaga | Shakira
andy232000 11,476
Sme opinion. i dont even understand why the song is so popular. its one of her weak songs in my opinion. its also so overburnt and overexposed. its tiering to see gaga perform it because its like..."ughh again this song?" i usually skip the BR performances. its had too much spotlight. Head Empty 25,162
Visually it is one of Gaga's most cohesive video's, while she still nails the avant-garde Gaganess of it all. A video like Applause might have gorgeous visuals in it, but I feel like the scenes don't synergize together as well as the Bad Romance video. Happiness will never last, darkness comes to kick your ass... ᵃˢˢ 🕺
Ambrosia 3,775
I don't a--lyze it; I just enjoy it. If I had to theorize on why I liked things I do, half the fun would be gone and the moment would be a chore instead of enjoyable. SISTERV 3,887
I guess what I'm saying is that it influenced ALOT of videos for years and it is so uniquely Gaga at the same time. People tried to imitate it's filming style for years and it also established Gaga as not just a contemporary one album success, but showed she could outdo the already un-outdoable (Poker Face)
Jesse Pinkman 4,660
Its dope as **** and it wasn't something people have seen in a LONG time. She completely used the art of music video to its full potential. Its a huge reason why she's so successful. It's science, bitch
