Are you ready to jumpGet ready to jump
Don't ever look back oh baby
Yes, I'm ready to jump
Just take my hand
get ready to jump <---- not good

How high are the stakes
How much fortune can you make
Does this get any better
Should I carry on
Will it matter when I'm gone
Will any of this matter <----better but not great

Let it will be
Just let it be
Oh let it be

Let it will be (just let it be)
Just let it be (Let it will be)
Oh let it be (Got to let it be)
Oh let it be (Won't you let it be)

Now I can tell you
The place that I belong
It won't last long
The lights they will turn down <---- not great either

(Future Lovers)

'm gonna tell you about love
Let's forget your life
forget your problems
Administration, bills and loans
Come with me

In the evidence of its brilliance [repeat]

In the demonstration of this evidence
Some have called it religion
This is not a coincidence
Would you like to try <----- GREAT LYRICS!

Staring up into the heavens
In this hell that binds your hands
Will you sacrifice your comfort
Make your way in a foreign land

Wrestle with your darkness
Angels call your name
Can you hear what they are saying
Will you ever be the same <---- GREAT LYRICS

The original Forbidden Love in Bedtime Stories was better.

The Lyrics as a whole in COD was not great. It was a great album sonically not lyrically.

Just stop. Confessions is one of her greatest albums. Wanna talk about crappy lyrics, look no further than a certain album released just less than two years ago.

As to the OP, no, I don't think Rebel Heart is a failure. It is a great album that has some potholes, but none that bring the album to the levels of Hard Candy or MDNA.

COD was a great album but the lyrics were actually not that great.

"I don't like cities
But I like new york
Other places make me feel like a dork"  <----Not great lyrics.

The ABBA hooks saved this album.

Yes and while the album is great musically the lyrics are very basic and embarrassing. See I Love New York.

thats 1 song

like it or not

You can call me a sinner
You can call me a saint
Celebrate me for who I am
Dislike me for what I ain't

Put me up on a pedestal
Or drag me down in the dirt
Sticks and stones will break my bones
But your names will never hurt

I'll be the garden
You be the snake
All of my fruit is yours to take
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow
Because

[Chorus]
This is who I am
You can
Like it or not
You can
Love me or leave me
Cus I'm never gonna stop
No no

Cleopatra had her way
Matahari too
Whether they were good or bad
Is strictly up to you

Life is a paradox and it doesn't make much sense
Can't have the Femme without the Fatale
Please don't take offense

Don't let the fruit rot under the vine
Fill up your cup and let's drink the wine
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow
Because

[Chorus X2]

no no you know [repeat]

I'll be garden
You'll be the snake
All of my fruit are yours to take
Better the devil that you know
Your love for me will grow
Because

[Chorus]

no no you know [repeat]

Doors of heaven]

Staring up into the heavens
In this hell that binds your hands
Will you sacrifice your comfort
Make your way in a foreign land

Wrestle with your darkness
Angels call your name
Can you hear what they are saying
Will you ever be the same

[Chorus]
Mmmm mmm mmm
Im Nin'alu, Im Nin'alu
Mmmm mmm mmm
Im Nin'alu, Im Nin'alu
[English translation: "If they are locked"]

Remember, remember
Never forget
All of your life has all been a test
You will find the gate that's open
Even though your spirit's broken

Open up my heart
Cause my lips to speak
Bring the heavens and the stars
Down to earth for me

[Chorus X2]

Wrestle with your darkness
Angels call your name
Can you hear what they are saying
Will you ever be the same

[Chorus X2]

There's only so much you can learn in one place
The more that I wait, the more time that I waste

I haven't got much time to waste
It's time to make my way
I'm not afraid of what I'll face
But I'm afraid to stay
I'm going down my road and I can make it alone
I'll work and I'll fight till I find a place of my own

[Chorus]
Are you ready to jump
Get ready to jump
Don't ever look back oh baby
Yes, I'm ready to jump
Just take my hand
get ready to jump

We learned out lesson from the start
My sisters and me
The only thing you can depend on
Is your family
Life's gonna drop you down like the limbs from a tree
It sways and it swings and it bends until it makes you see

[Chorus]

Are you ready?

There's only so much you can learn in one place
The more that you wait
The more time that you waste

I'll work and I'll fight till I find a place of my own

It sways and it swings and it bends until you make it your own

I can make it alone [repeat]
(my sisters and me)

[Chorus X2]

In the demonstration of this evidence

This is not a coincidence
Would you like to try

[Chorus]
Connect to the sky
Future lovers ride
Their ambitions high
Would you like to try

Let me be your guide
Put aside your pride
Future lovers hide
Love inside their eyes

In the evidence of its brilliance [repeat]

Love controlled by time
Future lovers shine
For eternity
In a world that's free

Put away your past
Love will never last
If you're holding on
To a dream that's gone

I'm gonna tell you about love
Would you like to try

In the evidence of its brilliance [repeat]

There's no love like the future love

Come with me

[Chorus]

In the evidence of its brilliance
[repeat]

Yes, these three songs are great, but most of the album has a much better sound than lyric content. IMO, ROY and BTS were both better lyrically than COD. That is the basis of my comparison. I'm not comparing her to anyone else, not you, but other people seem to think I am.  I am just comparing her albums.  I did mention in another post that Future Lovers and Isaac were great songs.

It's a horrible album and the era itself is also horrible. Same thing with MDNA.

After Hard Candy (which was a very successful album and era) Madonna's long term contract with Warner Bros expired and then she signed with Interscope. Since then she has constantly flopped.

She had just entered her 50's during the Hard Candy era and that was a huge success, so it's nothing to do with age.

Is Warner Bros responsible for Madonna's past success?

I feel like Madonna's biggest failure would be something movie-related.

She was praised for her acting there, but the movie was a major flop in the box office.

Commercialy, yes. The album leaked 3 months earlier! What did you expect? Despite that, and despite she has been in the industry for 33 years, it managed to sell 760k worlwide by now (TPP by Nicki, which is a flawless album, the best of her career, sold 900k since it's release). I'm proud of her.

In terms of material? Hell, no. Rebel Heart is a billion times better than MDNA, and it's better that Hard Candy too. In this album, you can actually 'feel' the lyrics; you can see that Madonna was very involved in the project. There are some great songs, in terms of lyrics (like Joan of Arc, Ghosttown, Veni Vidi Vici) that are better than the whole MDNA album.

Madonna didn't fall. She's still in the game.

The leaks played a huge part of the album flopping, but the album has too many songs who aren't that good. I mean that Autotune Something song is just sick.gif

Confessions on a Dance Floor did well because it was a safe return to form after the messages and ideas she was pushing with American Life. While it's a sonically great album, it doesn't really do much as a Madonna record. It's endless, fun pop music and lacks the messages she normally put in her records. It's one endless club record. I mean she withdrew the video because of what happened with the Dixie Chicks and that's pretty much what has blacklisted her for the majority part of her future singles. Yes, Confessions and Hard Candy received their fair share of airplay but it marked the instance in which she now relies on featurings to chart now. I think Celebration was her last chart without any featuring acts.

As for Hard Candy and MDNA. She focused more on trends rather than looking forward. HC is a catch up album of Nelly's Loose and MDNA was just a rushed effort (W.E., Superbowl, perfume deals) to harness the dance craze that erupted over the last few years. Even William Orbit confirmed how rushed their sessions were because she didn't put the record as her sole and main focus three years ago. Hence, why both albums lack any sort of Madonna personality. They seemed like excuses to tour and the minimal promotions (more so MDNA) had proves this.

The fault with Rebel Heart began with the leaks. People were spoiled with early versions of the songs and then preferred dance, non-remixed versions than the album versions that were received. Releasing Living For Love as a single in December and waiting almost three months to begin promotion, filming the video, the buzz was lost even with the Grammys performance. It also didn't help all the future singles were from the six songs given to people with the first batch. Anyone who bought the record already had these songs, why would they purchase them again? While the album is a return to form, it's very messy from the axed double album concept she was pushing, along with the leaks and the final versions. Had the leaks never happened, the album may have been received better and charted better. It seems her management team is late to capitalize on buzz and release things when the hype has long died. She needed better damage control and should have harnessed the buzz "Living For Love" had back in December, shot the video for "Bitch I'm Madonna" right after Fallon but she waited a while after hence the poor results.

From all accounts Rebel Heart is a good album, but this is Madonna we are talking about. I think people expect something "extra" from a Madonna album, a certain level of boldness and innovation. I think we got a taste of boldness, that's one of the themes, but I think people were really, really wanting another Ray of Light or Confessions. The leaks probably didn't help. But I admire that she stood by this album (it's by no means, in my opinion, a bad album) and promoted like crazy. We got some solid performances and her tours always make up for any lost sales. In any event it's a fun album, she clearly was happy with it, the fans love it, what more can be asked? It's hard when you have the legendary status to just have a "fun" album

Having said that, I am still convinced she has it in her to give us all another masterpiece. There's just too much creative drive and experience there. Tour the world Madonna. Use your connections with the artists that worship you. Find us those hot, forbidden underground sounds!

This.

I've never heard of this. Now I want to see it.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

It's not Rebel Heart. The album, in general, is good. Not her best, but it's enjoyable.

Bitch I'm Madonna IS HER BIGGEST FAILURE. It kind of contradicts Madonna in many ways.
