I think you need a bit more context for Gaga's quote. She has been talking about how the industry has been constantly trying to push the "rulebook" onto her. And how everybody wanted her to look pretty, say nothing political and make harmless music.

Also I remember very damn well the comments about ARTPOP sounding "dated" and a lot of people criticizing the her for working with Zedd. And she said "I stuck to my guns." It is stupid to assume her team/managment doesn't check this forum or other places to hear opinions. Gaga has always made dance music since she came into the public scope. And she did not change her ways with ARTPOP. She geniuinely believed in the album even though the fanbase dragged her, the media dragged her and Troy was making life a living hell for her. Imo, that's really f*cking badass. I don't see anything conflicting about the "I will be myself until they close the f*cking coffin" statement. I rarely see any conflicting statements made by Gaga except the ugly Kermit dress she wore in 2009 to say something about the fur industry.

But..

What's not conflicting about: "I'd quit if I had to change myself" and "I can't decide the way my vocals sound on every one of my albums"? :flop: & the rest of the examples I mentioned?

I didn't say anything about ARTPOP, though it still is possible that the tracklist was not her decision (cue Troy choosing Applause as a lead single even though Gaga didn't even want it on the album to begin with).

I get your point & I'm not trying to gun for Gaga here, to be clear, but I'm just trying to discuss where the boundary could possibly be and why she accepted the label's restrictions for so long.

He will most likely quote something from the C2C era where she drags the pop industry or something

Direct me to the quotes then

If she honestly ever said that she is looking for fame in general, then I'm leaving this forum rn.

It was in a fan recording of the BTWB, I don't know how to find it :rip: but I found the "I can't live without the fame" quote... Will you leave now :giggle:

I wouldn't grab on every single sentence she or anyone else says.

came here to say this but looks like u already posted my thoughts... ;)

I mean, if u want to nitpick her every single word she said then of course u're going to find flaws in her statements... People change all the time, their opinions evolve ...u can't just dig something from her past and question her integrity or whatever the hell it is

Call me by your name and I'll call you by mine

When and where did she say that though?

"I refuse to compromise and allow my talents to be monetized to the point that I don't even wanna be here anymore. I will stop. I will stop, I will quit, I will retire from the commercial market if I have to do something other than be myself because if I can't be myself in this moment then everything I have said to my fans since the beginning would be a total lie."

I think the quote makes more sense when you also highlight this part. I think it's fair to say she has had to compromise on some things, such as editing her vocals, but still felt the 'soul' of her work was intact and it retained its message. I think she is okay with making some compromises, but not to the point where they are deciding what producers she works with, what she will wear and exactly what her music and shows will be like.

She might be annoyed when she would rather release 'X' as a single but her label chooses 'Y' but is content with the fact that 'X' is still out there for her fans to enjoy and she is able to perform it on tour.

In saying that though, I kinda hope Gaga creates her own label where she can have more control or at least fund her music ventures independently. She has enough money to buy a studio or rent one out, she has friends that are producers and I'm sure she can find producers she likes to work with.

I'm not confident that will actually happen, and I'm sure a lot of fans here would hate it, but I think it would be awesome.

You're not actually serious with this particular vid, right? :rip:

I'm kinda horrified that she'd ever say "I need pop music to be famous" but if you really heard it.. I dunno, I'm imagining there must have been a context that would soften it :air:

As of that interview, she hasn't had to do anything but be herself as far as we know. So the boundary is: when she has to do anything but be herself. Maybe it will help you if, in your head, you add "As of today," to that quote.
