Call me brainwashed if you want, Gaga should be, like, top 10 seeing as how if she were on this list, she'd be one of the only ones who is actually in the songwriter's hall of fame.

The only reason I can think of to not have Gaga in this list is because she isn't established enough, and has not yet put her identity as a songwriter out to shine.

But they haven't listed Mariah Carey either, even though she has written all of her hits, too. Also no Linda Perry or Diane Warren (who I thought were seen as songwriting legends, right?). So it's just a crappy article tumblr_inline_nsqfnomtCI1qf3eh3_500.gif

The fact that Florence Welch isn't anywhere on this list automatically trashes its credibility for me.

first of all, this list is complete crap. It's so dude-filled, there's probably only 10 women out of 100 people mentioned in the whole list!

John Lennon #3? AFTER Paul McCartney AND Bob Dylan? Ummmmmm... NO.

Kanye West is included in this list? Well that just goes and completely disqualifies the entire list to begin with.

At least Joni Mitchell was included in the top 10 and at least Bjork & Patti Smith were included.

And at least Stevie Wonder was in the top 10.

No mention of Ani DiFranco. smh.

kanye is amazing :toofunny:

why are u guys so pressed with male rappers

i mean at least read their lyrics and listen to their music :saladga:

Rolling Stone is always paying her dust. They never include her in any of their lists (as far as I know).

It's nice to see another Tori Amos fan here tho. :hi5: You might be one of the few members on here to get the reference in my username. :green:

i'm glad to see other people on here that like Tori. i lost interest in her a long time ago, but when i was in college - circa 1998 - i was really into Little Earthquakes, Boys for Pele & From the Choirgirl Hotel.... I saw her live once too... probably back in 1999 or 2000....

They're all dead to almost-dead. We need contemporary list please. And if anyone puts Rihanna/Britney/Madonna or any other joke songwriter on I will throw a kitten from ... I won't throw a kitten.

kanye west is a great songwriter. it would be great if you would ever actually name some reasons you hate everyone on this list.

Fact and Interpretation of that fact are two different things.

Your interpretation of the facts are hysterical. None of the awards presented by The Songwriters Hall of fame have "quality of songwriting in their titles". It is assumed because it come from a prestigious organization.

'Commenting on the selection of Lady Gaga as the award recipient, SHOF President & CEO Linda Moran said, “It could be said that this honor was created with Lady Gaga in mind.  She has enjoyed monumental popularity on the charts, on radio, TV and the Internet, not to mention the continuous press coverage she has generated. She is a consistent hit maker who has surprised everyone by proving to be as adept with the great standards as she is with her own songs. We at SHOF are particularly proud that Lady Gaga performed at one of our songwriter showcases when she was still known as Stefani Germanotta.”'

That was not my interpretation, but a direct quote of what the Contemporary Icon Award is.

Hilariously enough, the paragraph you copy - pasted confirms that hysterical interpretation of mine anyway. :rip: The most idiotic contradiction I've yet seen on this site. :dies:

Um...hmm...the only thing it confirms is your pressed nature.

Again an interpretation is not fact. You still don't get it. I didn't expect you to understand. I don't want to continue this conversation with you. Its boring me already. Have fun trying to bring Gaga down or discrediting her accomplishments on another thread.

If you had the ability of seeing a pattern (which you don't), you'd notice that I'm only responding to comments that bring these artists down in order to raise Gaga up. Because most Gaga fans are insecure in their own favorite artist and feel the need to do such thing.

Goodbye, as always, it was ****ty talking to you.

Your interpretation was what you wrote after the quote. LOL OMG you can't possibly be this dense.

The part where you said, "That award has nothing to do with the quality of songwriting."

I'm pressed because Gaga and Florence are not in it and I think Eminem shouldn't be in this sh*t.

And, Bob Dylan, #1? Bye, Felicia.

Bob Dylan or Neil Young deserves number one.  They are true poets and have a huge body of work.  Although, I would say objectively Bob Dylan takes the number one spot, and Neil Young would say that.  But I love so much of Young's music.

I wonder how didn't they put Rihanna or Beyonce... This list is bull****

Rihanna doesn't write her music.  Beyonce has a lot of songwriters added into a song.  She is not a songwriter, per se, in that she would deserve to be in this list for top songwriters.  Look at how many co-writers are on each song on her last album.  She does enough to get some credit.

The part where you said, "That award has nothing to do with the quality of songwriting."

Lemme rephrase that in a non stimulating manner : that award has very much to do with your status in the music industry and has very little to do with the actual quality of your songwriting as it directly states. It rewards songwriters for achieving an iconic status in pop culture.

My point is still as valid as ever. And funny enough the paragraph you quoted proved what I'm saying. Stop embarrassing yourself, Gaga is not a better writer than any of the artists that are listed there.

You've already tried to argue with the fact that ROL brought EDM to the mainstream and failed miserably, why try to argue with facts again?
