ItsTommyBitch 12,640
... An interesting interpretation... I disagree with it, but I liked it Seriously though, Why is everyone acting like the video and song have no meaning when its like, literally the entire premise of the video with the paparazzi... but will later make the most far out interpretations for any video by Gaga or Taylor or Katy or any other "popgirl" Like this one takes very little creativity or mental fortitude to do, I don't get how you can not understand it at all unless u just are "listening and watching" but not actually a--lyzing it at all... at that point, it requires another step of active thought, not just watching a screen and begging for the message to be forced into your brain T he guy in the helicopter is taking pictures; hes the media, the press... so she shoots him down... Creyk's interpretation is spot on... and by one of the last on Honeymoon in that interview, I'm pretty sure she meant one of the last added to the record, as a certain producer (you can find a picture of Lana with him on instagram @ the time of them working on it IIRC...) said the song was made a few years ago... It's since been polished and what not. Im just really not here for people acting like "Another song about daddies and bad romances, all of her stuff is the same and totally missing the point of the song . Yes, you are going to find it "uneventful" and "random" unless you actually dig a bit, like Whether or not the video is objectively "Good" or not though is an entirely different story (I personally loved it, even the high wandering her house bits ) 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Pierre 10,480
I love it!I don't want to sound rude or effensive, but some parts of the video look like a 'I am Cait' promo. ❝Is not blue, not turquoise, not lapis. It's actually cerulean❞.
Kacey Elizabeth 900
Brilliant video, really compelling, very James Bond-esque. Not her best ever, but a step up from the more stripped-back, paractically plotless UV videos. I found it anything but boring because I was waiting for something that all this sedated build-up was for. That gun bit was absolutely hilarious! Am I just being naive or did no one expect a gun to come out of that guitar case? I thought it was literally a guitar case and it was a metaphor for running away and devoting her life to her music career! When that gun came out and the explosion happened and her face afterwards...it was just pure comedy! It was like watching the funniest plot twist video ever! Not sure if it was what they were going for, but it got a reaction. But then it all went serious again and made the final spoken lines so much more grand. As for the story...I think it's one of those videos that is actually quite different from the song. You were expecting one thing from the lyrics, got another from the video. Because I'd been so glued to the lyrics without the video, I just superimposed the lyrics onto the video's message. Hence...Lana is in her usual world of dating rich, wildly unsuitable men. She is dating a man who's likely a major d--g dealer, which means her life is full of uncertainty and instability and she's just a trophy wife with no say. When he's called away on business, she's just left all alone in a big house with nothing to do (loving you is hard, being here is harder, you take the wheel") and is left worrying about him when he's gone ("I can't survive if this is all that's real"). The house is so sparsely decorated because it's just temporary accomodation, maybe even a safe house, it's not a homely home. It's him in the helicopter, coming back to her, keeping an eye on her. Through the words, she suddenly realises that this is no life and she wants one of her own ("I'll do it on my own, don't need your money to get what I want"), runs down to the beach to pick up the gun that's stowed there for emergencies in case there's a raid or something and shoots him, putting a sudden end to it all, meaning she doesn't have to deal with the potential repurcussions of splitting up with him. She concludes with the spoken part that this is the start of a whole new life and she found peace through revenge and is now a stronger person. But the idea of it being about paparazzi and media perception of her (in the close up of the helicopter, it is actually a guy with a camera) is very plausible too. Like I said, a video can interpret a song very differently. James Franco's description of it is another thing I considered too - a woman living on her own going crazy, thinking people are watching her. Whatever your interpretation, I think as long as you're moved by the art, it doesn't matter. Multiple interpretations can actually show how good a piece of art is, I find. She's a true diamond in the rough, that girl.If you think it's about getting high by the beach, you've clearly just fixated on the chorus. Yes, the words are simple, but that doesn't make them bad. It's obvious before we even get to the chorus that it's about Lana moving on from a man who's no good for her and she just wants to live simple and free (the only reason she sings about getting high by the beach in the first place). Just because something is low budget doesn't make it bad either. Art is not defined by money. I'd take a simple video with a compelling plot over a CGI fest to show off how much money the label has. And just because it's simple doesn't make it boring. It's meant to be a relaxing song, so the video is too. Music isn't just for dancing. You're entitled to your opinion, but it just seems a bit...superficial.Oh, and seeing as you're a Taylor fan, I thought pretty settings, pretty costumes and guns was very 1989 era, therefore right up your street. I daresay Taylor was also heavily inspired by Lana on at least two tracks on 1989. Lyrics like "You got that James Dean daydream look in your eye and I got that red lip classic thing that you like, you got that long hair, slicked back, white t-shirt and I got that good girl faith and a tight little skirt," and "Thought heaven can't help me now, nothing lasts forever," "He's so tall and handsome as hell, he's so bad but he does it so well," and "Say you'll remember me, standing in a nice dress, staring at the sunset, babe, red lips and rosy cheeks, say you'll see me again even if it's just in your wildest dreams" are very Lana-esque aren't they? I reckon Lana should sue for how much Wildest Dreams sounds like the beat of Without You and how the whole thing jacks her style. And I bet you don't find a slow track like Wildest Dreams boring when it's by Taylor. It's so weird when Taylor fans call other people's music boring when her album tracks are so bland they could be a cure for insomnia.not only the beat, but also the melody!
