No, stop overracting, her role in Crossroads wasn't a demanding role hence why we never got to see her truly acting. She was in Will & Grace & How I Met Your Mother and she did really great.

That is false.

I thought she was hilarious on Will and Grace and How I Met Your Mother. As for Crossroads, that movie was basically a promotional stunt/fluff movie for her self titled third album. Nothing more really. It's actually kind of a guilty pleasure of mine, like Showgirls.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

All you said is the truth :worship:

And do you know they actually changed her self titled third album just because of Crossroads?

Crossroads shouldn't have happened.

Did they? Well you learn something new every day.

I have no idea how the movie fared other then I remember Britney's acting being panned. But it was a vanity flick so what did people expect? She was cute in it and while the plot and writing sucked I did like that they touched a bit on the issues of rape and the stigma of teen pregnancy. It wasn't *that* bad, just silly and a little dumb. Just...fluff. it kind of reminded me a bit of From Justin to Kelly. It's just another marketing tool. Like I said, it's a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. I like to get buzzed with friends and watch (and sometimes sing along), Lol.

Originally, Britney was supposed to be more mature than it was, they let her write so many songs but in the end many of them got cut and got replaced by Overprotected & all the songs that belonged to Crossroads, they thought that releasing a BO soundtrack and an album at the same time would cost too much. Crossroads is just pointless lol, Britney should have acted in a movie where she can really show off her acting.

Interesting.

From what I remember about Britney's early career (and rumors behind the scenes) it seems her management treated her very much like a huge cash cow/machine. The twenty bopper market is extremely lucrative, especially then when there weren't such heavy streaming services (none I think) and as many illegal download sites. While have a more mature third album would have been a great start for her to develop as a more mature artist, she was still an extremely hot commodity for her teen audience. She had just popped out two smash albums with tons of hit singles relatively quickly, was everywhere on MTV and VH1, in practically every magazine. She was such a teen phenomenon and still so young, I could see her label recognizing how easy it would be to keep her on that train. From the rumors going around, and I think Britney herself confirmed, she had super crazy schedules and was working like crazy, just everywhere promoting herself, touring, recording. I think she was at or near her peak at that point, it makes sense for them to see the potential of having her branch out her brand. But obviously they didnt want to hurt that brand by risking damage to her image, so they would have to create a role to fit that sweet yet highly bang-able girl next door persona. And every film needs a soundtrack, so why waste such an opportunity? It all makes sense from a business point of view. Of course we now know that the film likely hurt her chances for more acting roles, but at the time, they probably thought she was invincible enough as a world wide persona that it would all turn out roses. They probably pictured her with an acting career similar to Mandy Moore (or what she started out doing). Remember, the teen movie market is also extremely lucrative, particularly if it has a prominent romantic plotline. Crossroads fits many of those formulas, so I can see why it happened.

.... her acting is terrible though :wtfga:

What sane person would possibly cast her after the abomination that was Crossroads.......

she did so good in her first episode in that tv show (how i met ur mother, i never watched btw) that they got her for a second time, shes very good at comedy

there was a wikileak from Julian Assange about how Britney and her little role there saved the show for being canceled

actually Joseph Kahn said that in the original story line for Perfume, Britney was an assasin, and that he never experience a raw talent like that in his life! he was so mad cuz Britney's team didnt want the original version cuz it was super "risky"

Interesting. Kind of reminds me how at the very very beginning of her career she was supposedly a really good singer (being on Star Search and stuff), but the baby voice worked well with the Lolita aesthetic her team wanted.

And having her sing with her "nasal" voice really damaged her vocals
