Gaga "I’m a much better jazz singer than I am a pop singer" + infos cake

The artists who perform selections from "the Great American Songbook" didn't write the songs they sang. That list included Sinatra, Martin, Holiday, Fitzgerald, Clooney, Crosby and Bennett. They sang from the catalogue of music that was comprised of songs written by the Gershwins, Johnny Mercer, Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, and more.

Plus, Gaga was referring to her vocals with that statement, not her songwriting.

The statement she made still lacks any valid substance, in my opinion.

The parameters of pop music and Jazz music are so entirely different there's almost no room for comparison. I don't understand what standard she followed when she said that. Since she's an artist that so unabashedly and rightfully brags about being full rounded in terms of writing, composing, producing and engineering her own sounds I expected her to make a more fair comparison. Pop is about infusion and there are countless amount of departments in pop music where she could showcase her vocal chops and be praised for it. I just strongly dislike unspecific & asymmetrical sayings haha, excuse me.

The funny thing is pop fans assuming that pop is the epitome of musical success.  It might be the epitome of commercial music success in a monetary fashion, but it's not even close to the epitome of musical artistry. In fact it's often the lowest quality level.

Gaga has been singing from The Great American Songbook, like all those other artists listed in my original comment. She feels that she sings those songs better, for whatever reasons, than she feels that she sings pop music. In her statement, she did not discuss songwriting, because singers of jazz standards do not write their own music, they interpret songs from a certain era and from a certain selection of songs that were written decades ago.

That is her assessment of her vocals coming from the two genres of music, she has put out albums and done a tour for. It's not really that complicated, just a simple statement.

Noticeably commercialized *currently mainstream* pop, maybe.

As a fan of rock (yes, including alternative metal, indie rock, stoner rock), Hip - Hop and other musical genres, I disagree on that note. Pop music is just as worthy as other genres, in fact, many pop albums made it to the most respectable & reliable acclaimed list, including the well known 1001 albums you must hear before you die list.

I just think that as of recent memory, pop music has been driven by trash, minimally talented acts that lead to its bad reputation. Sad, but true.

Please find me a pop song that isn't a ballad that showcases a singers vocal ability. Saying the that she writes, composes, produces and engineers her music isn't bragging. That would have to be said about every artist who has been asked the question, "do you produce, write etc..."  Stop looking for an argument. Saying that she is bragging is Flamebaiting.

Plenty of pop songs are also ballads. Does that invalidates the fact that they're essentially pop songs? Pop is about infusion, it's about collaborating and experimenting with different elements, subgenres..etc.

Mariah Carey was pop, Whitney Houston was pop, Michael Jackson was pop.

I made sure to previously add the words unabashedly and rightfully before making that bragging comment to assure Whispering that there's no negative connotations behind what I said. But talking to him is like talking to a wall so no wonder he liked your comment in order to keep fooling himself into believing that I'm some sort of a troll.

She actually sings Judas VERY well live even though she dances a lot.I like more the live performances than the studio version.

I agree that she's good in jazz... But please she's good in pop too :rip:

And please guys don't take that statement as the proof next album is jazz... I highly doubt RedOne became a jazz artist too
