Sugarfall 3,723
Honestly you can see even on GGD, a lot of LGBT+ people doing gay jokes so I don't get what the big deal with Shane is, he is a YouTube comedian after all
SKANK 14,288
You don't get the feeling that the jokes he made and persona he adopted may have been him projecting? I believe it's fairly common for people in the closet to do that sort of thing. Yes, it might have been a vital aspect of his career, but that doesn't really change anything imo. It seems quite clear to me that he felt pretty ashamed, and turned the pain and gossip over his flamboyancy into something of a joke or caricature as a way of coping. Yes, I know other closeted youtube personalities avoided speaking about their s-xuality altogether, while Shane has repeatedly claimed that he is straight and made fun of the idea of him being gay. You might see that as exploitation, but to me that really just shows how far he suppressed himself. I have to feel sympathy for that. I think you are exactly correct. It's strange to me that a forum full of gay men wouldn't be able to recognize and empathize with the many ways a closeted LGBT person will project their self-loathing and confusion before they are able to fully accept their s-xuality. I don't quite understand it, either. As nice as it would be for LGBT people to be able to feel comfortable and happy in their s-xuality all throughout their lives, that isn't the case for many people. Many feel confused and ashamed by their s-xuality, and cope with these feelings in a lot of different ways. Deflecting feelings through humour seems like a natural choice for a comedian. johnpe 916
Sure, it isn't shocking, but neglecting his sincerity and honesty just because "you knew it" is plain stupid. You're not Sherlock, you're not a genius, and you did not know it. Not until now, now you know it, it was all speculations before. And he's obviously had hard time confessing this to himself, realizing it and going through it. Imagine if you were in his shoes right now, so much courage to come out and everybody's lke "" oh we knew that mate xd stop begging for attenshun " MAKE IT WORK
AIex 3,102
This YouTube coming out of closet trend is a weird trend. And a late one for that matter. I mean Joey and Shane, at least Tyler Oakley came out his first year when he was a random irrelevant person.
Azor Ahai 18,861
This YouTube coming out of closet trend is a weird trend. And a late one for that matter. I mean Joey and Shane, at least Tyler Oakley came out his first year when he was a random irrelevant person. Some Youtubers came out. The public had a positive response. Closeted Youtubers thought "oh then maybe I would be accepted too! :)" . Then one by one they came out.
Sexxx 5,584
I don't know why he's acting like this was so hard for him. He's a Youtuber, there are SO many gay ones, no one really cares anymore. The thing that gets me most is how he thought poking fun at being gay a few years back was entertainment. He's was a responsible adult.

What are you even on about???"Why is so hard for him" : Seriously you are asking this question on coming out which is the hardest thing for anyone to do ??"He's a Youtuber, there are so many gay ones" Now in 2015 there are so many gay ones and that's why he felt comfortable coming out.And he is not GAY. He is BI.
AJH219 4,448
I thought this'd be the last place I'd read "He'll come out as gay eventually" and "not surprising" comments. Keep your nasty comments to yourself. This community should be built on acceptance. As unfortunate as it is, our community often throws the first stone. So the comments I've read come as no surprise. jojuun 4,159
Wow obviously you did not even watch to the video he said she was the first he talked it about with and they broke up 6 months ago , what are you even on about?Like I said, I skipped over that part, I've seen it now and my statement about that part is incorrect. All of my other points still stand. He build his career on not being gay ? He build his career on being weird, feminine and having a weird, dark and insulting humor. He makes fun of everyone including the LGBT community and himself because he, and his fans think it's funny.Who are you kidding here? He built his career on the fact he acted like the stereotypical "funny gay guy" and yes, it is a huge portion of his career. It is simply wrong to flat out deny it for years and poke fun at it on a regular basis because he's financially gaining from it. That is wrong. I don't understand how you can't see that. Can I get a mod here? Some of the comments are disgusting. For real? I am being very respectful, just giving my opinion. I gave props for coming out but understood everyone here because it was pretty much a public secret he was gay or bis-xual.Face it, he acts like a flaming queen in 90% of his public videos, what did you expect? People weren't shocked when Ricky Martin came out either. Get real here. No one here is being homophobic, most of us ARE gay. We're just saying that while it is very courageous thing to come out, it isn't exactly surprising in his case. Everyone suspected it anyway. He's not going to get a sh*tstorm of negative comments over him, he's been a public figure for years and everyone knew or expected it. And publicly outing someone is a double edged sword. I understand both sides...On the one hand, everyone basically demanding him to come out was right to a certain extend. He is a successful YouTube entrepreneur and for the same reasons as he gives now, he could've done it years ago. He would've been one of the first YouTube Stars to do it. Now he's joining Tyler, Joey, ... All of them. We still need more public figures in all erea's that are gay and successful. Visibility is important, like he said, especially for his younger watchers. He knew for years. On the other hand it is his personal journey and if he's been struggling with it, it's his decision to not do it. Until now.Get off my back. Well I think someone else said it best : I don't know why he's acting like this was so hard for him. He's a Youtuber, there are SO many gay ones, no one really cares anymore. The thing that gets me most is how he thought poking fun at being gay a few years back was entertainment. He's was a responsible adult. He GAINED from it. He was a responsible adult when he started his career. He has a book, a movie and several endorsement deals. It was plain wrong to poke fun at the idea of him being gay only to admit to it years later. He said he told his girlfriend a year ago, yet 9 months ago made a parody video with her about him being gay. He was in a pink tutu and his underwear. All the while he was supposedly out as bi to his girlfriend. Open your eyes, something doesn't add up. Just look at the dates he gives in his own coming out video and the latest parodies of him mocking the fact he might've been gay.I can't believe y'all. Just cause the man came out all of a sudden it's okay that he, for like what? 7 years? Has been mocking the fact everyone thought he was gay. He "ironically" kissed gay guys, wore pink tutus, got his chest hair waxed... The entire thing. All while getting paid for it.I CAN'T. I never really watch coming out videos because it reminds of my coming out and I feel everything I used to feel back then and it is awful Don't ever tell someone what they feel is easy cause you are not feeling their feelings You have a point saying he is gonna have support around him and I agree 100% that he's an hypocrite for denying he was not straight and making fun of gay people for his entire career lbut don't try to deny how hard it is what he's going through.
