"Born This Way is overproduced"

Yeah! Every time I say that people get mad at me as if I said it is bad :awkney: Does Hair have ten thousand layers of background vocals? Yes. Is it still one of the best songs she ever released? HELL ****ING YEAH.

If you see me posting like crazy, I'm either bored or procrastinating.

A song is overproduced when the artist didn't intend to make it so loud and full of sounds, which wasn't the case with Born This Way nor Gaga's any other album.

With all due respect that is not how I perceive the meaning of overproduced, it's not even on the same book of intentions totally has nothing to do with intentions and what not in my humble opinion. To me overproduced is the over use of a certain sound in a song whether that be bass/drum/electronic/techno to a point where it overpowers the vocals. This doesn't mean that Gaga's vocals were bad , heck no it just means that the beat was more in your face than the vocals themselves and in this day and age that is mostly the case so it's not something to judge Gaga for , as I said it's not a bad thing to begin with. What I will say involves intentions is that Gaga overproduced some sounds in order to match these loud emotions of Born This Way but that doesn't change the fact(or might be my opinion) that some songs are overproduced. It's as if I am shouting at someone and I go like no I wasn't  shouting , I just wanted to get your attention , still I was shouting though. Hope you understand from where I'm coming from : )

Better Day

This is funny. We had this discussion.

BTW is Gaga's second best album.

I just feel the production is not clean enough. I love loud and mess but the production is too messy and far too loud meaning the production drowns out the vocals

Yeah but having an intention to be loud doesn't excuse something from being labelled as overproduced  I love Born This Way a lot and I personally like that there's a lot going on at the same time, but even then at times I think it goes a bit overboard where your ears don't know what to focus on (and not in a good way)

Overproduced sounds a lot like "I don't really have anything to **** on, so let me make this abstract criticism and cling on to my irrational hate"...

Not to mention that, in the end of the day, It's all a matter of taste...a lot of the music ppl think to be brilliant and unpretentious I just find really, really lazy...and not only in terms of production - I mean, does EVERY ****ING SONG have to be a love song or some bull**** about relationships?

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Well to be honest the production is quite noisy and loud. However, I think the misconception made by people that tend to look at it negatively is that that is a bad thing. I don't think thats bad. I like plenty of loud music and I think her influences on that record were quite clear. The thing is, its just not everyones cup of tea.

You don't need to make poorly mixed and badly produced loud music to make it sound happy and upbeat. I understand her intentions but it just didn't work for me

That was not the intention though. Born This Way was a celebration of excess in every way possible from the album cover to the production to her visuals to her fashion to mood. It was just incredibly grandiose and gaudy and loud etc. None of which I particularly characterize as negative, depending on the track/video/whatever. The thing is being ostentatious isn't something that is going to be everyones cup of tea. And in certain songs I enjoy, I can certainly understand why someone else might not. For example Americano, I think its fun and enjoyable but it is quite noisy and in your face, so I can see why someone might think its irritating or a mess. I think Born This Way is a great pop record, its just divisive. Not everyone can get into it and thats alright. And thats not to mean those who don't are lacking in understanding, it was just aesthetically not as universal as The Fame+Monster.
