Probably because she changed her mind, just like Obama did and just like millions of Americans did who now support gay marriage. What's the other option? Republicans that want to stop equal rights for the LGBT community?

Hillary is fully supportive now. Human beings change their minds, as they learn and evolve throughout life. When you know better, you do better!

The option is a candidate like Bernie Sanders, who has been a staunch supporter of gay rights for his entire career.

She's supportive because the polls went from "Majority against gay marriage" to "Majority support gay marriage."

Or she just changed her mind, like 30 per cent if the Americans who changed their minds and now support gay marriage. I personally know several family members and friends who have changed their minds over the last few years.

If you are the type of person who doesn't believe that people change their views and positions as they learn and understand more, then good luck finding those types of people...the ones who believed exactly like you do since birth. Gaga has her reasons for supporting Hillary, who does support the LGBT community, and it is Gaga's personal choice to do so.

Probably the reason she's not supporting Bernie Sanders is because she doesn't want a Republican in the White House in 2016. People here may like his positions on this issues, but people here are also young and liberal unlike most of the country.  This is a man who describes himself as a socialist, something that 50% of Americans say they wouldn't even consider voting for. Republicans are salivating at the idea of Bernie winning the Democratic primary because they know it would virtually guarantee them a win.

I agree with Bernie on most of the issues but I also know that he is absolutely unelectable in a general presidential election, so I am glad Gaga is not supporting him in the primary.

Im so lost at this :saladga: Bernie Sanders self-described socialism is more in line with extreme democrats than republicans; hes literally the antithesis to every republican on almost every single issue and that INCLUDES policy, not merely social issues. 50% of Americans dont even understand capitalism past a textbook definition, let alone socialism or communism :hunty: I've been following this race for a while now and never ever seen what you are suggesting :emma: The idea that he may be a secret fave of the republicans when he would literally campaign to fight every single thing they stand for doesn't make sense to me.

You are right that he is unfortunately never going to be president :smh: He's old and boring, even if his stances slay and are as progressive as they get  America will never vote for him  Unless Hilary dies and is like on her death bed 'vote bernie sanders!' -- maybe he knows this though. I think he wants to push Hilary to run further left (which she should imo, but shes kind of moderate-ish atm), which she may have to do in order to block Bernie from skeptical democrat voters.

It's a fairly basic concept. Most of the Republican candidates can beat a self-described socialist just by repeatedly saying "Sanders is a socialist". Socialism and American politics have never gone well together.

It's a lose-lose situation. If Hilary wins the primary, we have a candidate who is a spineless, flip flopping, secretive and power-hungry politician, and if Bernie wins the primary he'll never be elected.

Note: I'm a die-hard gay liberal and study American politics for a living and I would sooner vote for an anti-gay  Republican than vote for Hilary. Ugh. It'd be like Obama x 100. Our economy can't take that again.

I'm stupid :saladga: After I re-read pie-kun's post it made perfect sense, I totally misread it the first time  (Lemme go fix it :green:

Though I'd definitely vote for Hillary, I consider her the lesser of two evils by far. She's actually not as far left as Obama is politically. You're welcome to vote republican if you wish.

Personally, I consider social positions to be just as integral to a candidate's overall appeal as their economic ones, and in that sense I prefer someone with balance rather than a total teeter-totter effect like a majority of the republican candidates. And its not just because of the anti-gay bias :smh:

The economy has improved in some ways under Obama btw :emma: Like, people keep track of it and do reports every 3 or so months and you can find them with a quick google search  What our economy can't take is to continue how it was going before, and no smart candidate would do that. Even menial improvement >>> recession.

Our economy has hardly improved, if that. While we are not in recession we certainly aren't recovering. We now have record under-employement (higher than it was before the Great Depression) and interest rates are also at an all-time low (this isn't totally Obama's fault though). Our economy only looks "good" if you look at the unemployment number which is extremely deflated and misleading considering it only accounts for people actively trying to get a job and not the millions of Americans who have completely given up on searching for a job and instead collect their checks from the gov't.

Hilary has no stance on economics. She's never studied it nor applied it in the real world. Her only credentials are being the wife of a former impeached president and her train wreck of a time as Secretary of State of which she's actively covered up(!). She has NO clue how to lead this country to economic prosperity.

Do you know what is going to help MILLIONS of more Americans than being able to marry the same gender? Having a job. A good, skilled, and living-wage job. Do you know what's going to help more Americans than allowing people to use the restroom of the gender they align with? Not having to worry about living paycheck to paycheck  or getting into an accident that puts them out of work for 3-4 weeks, all the while their family or four is literally starving to make ends meet.

Hilary is most definitely not the candidate that will have the greatest positive impact on the greatest number of Americans.

While I'm as left as it goes on almost all social issues including LGBT rights and believe they are fundamental human rights, I understand that we should elect the candidate that is going to put the most amount of Americans in a better place.

Again,  my reasons for backing Hilary are not solely based on her stance on gay rights :miley:   Not everyone who votes democrat or is going to vote Hillary is doing it solely based on her social issues. I believe social policy is just as important as economic when it comes to voting; again, its not like the president you vote for will accomplish everything they set out to do, or even honestly intend to do those things. I'm looking for the most well-rounded candidate, and I believe Hillary is it.

While im not going to do it myself, people have the right to vote "selfishly" for lack of a better word -- for the candidate that supports their personal struggle. Some candidates may not see certain issues as "pressing" as others, but people feel strongly about a ton of things. For example, Some people are more worried about the imbalances that prevent them from getting and keeping jobs in the first place before they can worry about not getting paid enough for example. It's all perspective, which is why I look for a good balance.

Feel free to disagree though  We seem to have an intrinsic difference in values so i doubt any further discussion will go anywhere :emma:
