Tropico 4,145
This is completely unfair. I am truly trying to understand her, but why isn't the same spotlight put into the acting industry? Netflix, Hulu, Amazon do the same thing, and you don't see actors complaining. And no, I am not talking about George Clooney and all them. I am talking about struggling actors. As a former actor, some artists (musicians/actors/others) get paid upfront a small percentage. And then they start to see money. But it all goes back to "Why are you trying to be an artist then? To entertain or be a millionaire? Because if you want to be a millionaire, bish better go to college instead of relying on a big cut to happen." Streaming is the future, and there is no way to stop it. Either be happy with the money youre earning from the streaming sites, or be happy with nothing, because Im sure if people cant find your catalog on the streaming service theyre paying, then they will go ahead and download it illegally.Maybe Taylor isn't talking about it because she isn't an actress? We don't know how much actors are getting from Netflix. If they're bothered, then they should take a stand. It isn't Taylor's job to everyones superhero and voice. She's talking about what she knows and what she knows is that Apple is being unfair. And I don't use Netflix but does Netflix offer a free 3 month trial? If the answer is 'no' then the industries cannot be compared. If yes, the actors are either all happy with this agreement or they aren't bothered to speak up about it. ♢ Social Justice Enthusiast ♢
Kacey Elizabeth 900
The thing here is that Taylor says that music is art, and art is something valuable that should be paid for. But I like to ask, when Taylor goes to an art museum, does she pay money to view the arts or just for the admission? This whole thing contradicts her idea and concept of the whole streaming thing with Spotify and Apple. Plus, I heard this somewhere (i have to look it up myself to be sure), the only album of Taylor which is not available in Apple music is 1989. Her other 4 albums are available in Apple music. If this is true, then Taylor only wants to 1989 to sell more. For the love of God, 1989 has sold like 7.4 million copies already. Isn't that enough for her? This whole thing with Apple not paying artists, songwriters, and producers during those 3 months is probably just a excuse for her to take her latest album off of streaming websites so it will sell more and she will have more money. Nicole 1,809
Seriously though, it's all because of technology/streaming that these new artists want money straight away. If we switch contexts here to 10 years ago or so, new artists might have spent the equivalent (3 months) or even more performing for free, giving out home-made CD's just to get their name out there before a record executive walks past, signs them and they start earning $$. So what's the difference here? Spend a few months taking advantage of such technology to get your name out there. If you work hard, your name will still be known after those three months, or maybe their name didn't get out there within those three months but they'll earn money after that period of time knowing they've worked well and hard for it? thefamebitch 834
At least you're being paid something for the music with streaming. Yeah it's hardly anything at all, but, who's making a profit off of illegal music downloads where the artist nor the label get a cent?

Bleachella 2,932
I'm confused...what is going on? So Taylor said she wasn't putting her music on Apple Radio.. It's really lengthy, and here's the full thing if you wanna read:http://taylorswift.tumblr.com/post/122071902085/to-apple-love-taylor I tried my best to highlight the part that sums up the whole thing: "I’m sure you are aware that Apple Music will be offering a free 3 month trial to anyone who signs up for the service. I’m not sure you know that Apple Music will not be paying writers, producers, or artists for those three months. I find it to be shocking, disappointing, and completely unlike this historically progressive and generous company. This is not about me. Thankfully I am on my fifth album and can support myself, my band, crew, and entire management team by playing live shows. This is about the new artist or band that has just released their first single and will not be paid for its success. This is about the young songwriter who just got his or her first cut and thought that the royalties from that would get them out of debt. This is about the producer who works tirelessly to innovate and create, just like the innovators and creators at Apple are pioneering in their field…but will not get paid for a quarter of a year’s worth of plays on his or her songs. These are not the complaints of a spoiled, petulant child. These are the echoed sentiments of every artist, writer and producer in my social circles who are afraid to speak up publicly because we admire and respect Apple so much. We simply do not respect this particular call." And then the thread is about artists and writers tweeting Taylor for support

I just read her letter and it makes sense...I feel bad for the new artists, song writers, and producers who aren't getting paid for their work during a whole season. Even tho Taylor is right in that she has more than enough money to support herself and her team...I feel she's also upset SHE won't be getting money as well. I mean who wouldn't? It's like TIDAL all over again with major artists complaining about not getting paid but using the "poor new artist" excuse as a cover... Stream my new single, 💜"Heartbeat"💜, on Spotify! PoshLife 16,995
But... But... Bu.. I thought was doing this all for herself and she was "GREEDY!!!!1!!!111!!!!!". Turns out that maybe - just maybe - Taylor earns enough money to not be bothered by this personally but she actually cares for smaller artists. Who would've thought? ugh THANK YOU for saying this. it really annoyed me in that original thread that everyone was assuming she was motivated by personal greed when someone as successful as her really doesn't need that motivation anymore.
