Yes, I know and I called this idiot whacked out. Why not post comments from the hundreds of people in the government and on the majority of news sources calling this a hate crime?

You are searching for the idiot minority, hoping to prove that the US government and reputable news outlets aren't looking at this shooting as a hate crime, and you are innacurate in that assessment. I fully agree with you that there are some idiots out there, many of them racist idiots, but that doesn't mean that those sentiments are the ones being expressed by the majority of the media, by the government as a whole, or by the majority of the public.

You are trying so hard to find these stories, but you don't live here. You aren't seeing how this country is truly reacting to this massacre. Watch CNN, watch the nightly news on NBC, CBS or ABC. Read reports from reputable news sources. I'm watching Rep. James Clyburn right now discuss this as a hate crime and is currently discussing if the shooter was tied into hate groups on the Internet. I've seen several other members of congress discuss these exact thoughts throughout the day, as well as leaders in local government on my local news station tonight.

Of course you are free to post the stories you find while digging around for them, but I'm also going to share that you are sharing opinions from the minority, not the majority.

LOL This patriotism doesn't look good on you.

I already told that hate crime is too mild term when it should be treated as domestic terrorism, since white supremacy is an ideology and he left one of them alive to "tell others", to spread fear.

I'm not digging up nor searching for this specific idiots, I just follow independent journalists on twitter and this type of idiocy shows up on my feed. If you want to present America as some fairy land with rainbows and peace & love for everybody, go ahead.

Black American members see the obvious bias in media. Yes All media. This white man is not called a thug, but he would be if he would be black. That is just one example.

Post whatever you want. And so what if I don't live there? Maybe I have someone who does. Maybe I can sympathise with black people's struggles and spread awareness. Didn't your country elect George W. Bush twice? An A class idiot. Who was he representing? I lived in a country which was bombed by USA for 6 months, so sadly your country's policies can and do affect the rest of the world.

And yeah...minority

It is not patriotism, it's stating facts. The majority of the media sites, reputable ones, are not agreeing with the sentiments from the loonies at Fox News.

What you don't understand is that the term hate crime is actually serving the people that this shooting was directed towards. Right now, this term is serving the movement in the U.S. at this current time. Black people ARE the ones that are focusing on this shooting as a hate crime.

Also, I'm not saying that the U.S. is a fairyland, as I have often discussed the police brutality and racism in this country...in multiple threads over the past year and longer.

And you think I don't sympathize with black people? Do you know my background or my family history?

Yeah, yeah, we all get it. You hate the U.S. Go ahead... doesn't matter to me, but that still doesn't mean your warped view is accurate. The fact that you often pull your news from Fox News shows your agenda. You are not posting the majority views in this thread.

Then you go ahead and post what you think is "majority" and "most accurate". No one is stopping you. I don't have an agenda, but you dismiss anyone who doesn't live there as if American politics don't affect the rest of the world. Don't forget that all other countries will just translate what US media says, so if it's a terrorism - it's everywhere the same, if not - they'll use the terminology US media wants them to use. Fox News was recently voted as most trusted network. One of these republican candidates will most likely be your next president. I don't generalize and I don't hate all American people, I hate racism, nationalism and prejudice. Whatever their number is, these people should be exposed. Like that racist teacher who wrote on her FB how people were on to something in 50s and 60s and she was hoping for racial segregation again. Even if she's one person, she doesn't deserve to poison mind of young kids. And if politicians do the same, they should be exposed too.

Sister

I hope that young people will get a message from this and eventually learn that what has caused so much of all of our problems in the world, is this sort of thinking, the celebrating of separating all of us into these different categories and not thinking of each other as the same, human beings, who ALL have to view each other as just the same and all as important as the next human being. This line of thinking needs to be stopped, but I feel that it is being preached even more lately, every group is rising up to face another group and it is just viewed as normal and every day life and there are even the trendy ever growing popular opinions that are viewed as majority rules that increase the thinking this way and are just spouted off by people as right and freedom of speech and pc logic that protects it and forms popular opinion. This is killing us and damaging our future.

You are me and us is them and we are all together.

And gun control, do not think for a moment that when they take all of the guns away from the citizens, the "important people" will also lose theirs. They will still have their protection by body guards with weapons, because they feel as if their lives are more important than yours and mine. Again, another group, us versus them, instead of all of us being human beings and ever as important.

This way of thinking kills us all as a group, every day and just leads to even more heartache and failure. If you have kids or are around children, teach them the old message of treating others as you would like to be treated and that we are all just human beings and have to share this world.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

Peter Bergen says such instances of extremist terrorism have been more prevalent in the U.S. than jihadist activity since 9/11

Peter Bergen is CNN's national security a--lyst, a vice president at New America and a professor of practice at Arizona State University. He is the author of "Manhunt: The Ten-Year Search for bin Laden -- From 9/11 to Abbottabad." David Sterman is a program associate at New America.

(CNN)The horrific attack at a historic church in Charleston, South Carolina, was allegedly carried out by a young white man who appeared to have deliberately targeted the church simply because it was serving African-Americans. Witnesses say the suspect said he was there "to shoot black people," a law enforcement official said. By any reasonable standard, this is terrorism, which is generally defined as an act of violence against civilians by individuals or organizations for political purposes.

But do the thought experiment: If this attack on the church in Charleston had been conducted by a Muslim man shouting "Allahu akbar," what is already a big news story would have become even bigger, as it would appear to fit so well into the political and media narrative that Muslim militants are the major terrorist problem in the United States.

That's a false narrative, as it turns out. In fact, deadly acts of terrorism by virulent racists and anti-government extremists have been more common in the United States than deadly acts of jihadist terrorism since 9/11.

There is something particularly shocking in a multiracial, multiethnic, multireligious society about murdering people simply because of who they are. That's true whether it's African-Americans in Charleston attending a Bible study group or spectators at the Boston Marathon. These attacks are acts designed to terrorize, and we should call them such.

According to a count by New America, since 9/11, 26 people have been killed in jihadist terrorist attacks in the United States, while extremist right-wing racists and anti-government militants have killed 48, if we include the nine people who were killed in the attack in Charleston, which is being investigated as a hate crime.

Last year alone saw four such deadly extremist right-wing attacks that killed eight people.

• On April 13, 2014, Frazier Glenn Cross shot and killed a 14-year-old boy and his grandfather at the Jewish Community Center in Kansas City and then drove to a Jewish retirement community, where he killed a third person, authorities say. Reports say Cross shouted "Heil Hitler" after he was taken into custody. He has pleaded not guilty.

• On June 8, 2014, married couple Jerad and Amanda Miller killed two police officers in an ambush at a pizza restaurant in Las Vegas and also killed another person at a Walmart as they left the scene before committing suicide. The shooters possessed white supremacist paraphernalia and had previously spoken of targeting law enforcement officers and expressed militant views, according to their neighbors.

• On September 12, 2014, a police officer was killed in a shooting at the Blooming Grove police barracks in Pennsylvania. State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan identified Eric Frein as a suspect. Noonan said that Frein "has made statements about wanting to kill law enforcement officers and also to commit mass acts of murder" and "has expressed anti-government leanings in the past, especially toward law enforcement." Frein was taken into custody after seven weeks on the run. Prosecutors added terrorism charges against Frein, citing a letter in which he allegedly called for a revolution. He has pleaded not guilty.

• On November 22, 2014, Curtis Wade Holley ambushed and killed a police officer in Tallahassee, Florida. According to local police, Holley had planned the ambush, held anti-government political beliefs and had made previous threats against police that had put him on a watch list. Holley was killed by police officers in a shootout.

In addition, since 9/11, none of the roughly 290 people indicted or convicted in the United States of some act of jihadist terrorism has acquired or used chemical or biological weapons, while 13 people motivated by right-wing extremist ideology, one person motivated by left-wing extremist ideology, and two with idiosyncratic beliefs used or acquired such weapons or their precursors.

Although a variety of left-wing militants and environmental extremists have carried out violent attacks for political reasons against property and people since 9/11, none has been linked to a deadly attack, according to research by New America.

Jihadist violence continues to dominate the news and the attention of policymakers. Some of this is quite understandable. After all, on 9/11, al Qaeda killed almost 3,000 people.

Yet, as a matter of the public safety, there really is no difference between terrorism that is purportedly committed in the name of Allah and killing that is committed for other political ends, such as the racist beliefs about African-Americans that appear to have motivated Thursday's attack in Charleston.

A crazy conservative might just be my next president, but I won't vote for him/her. The U.S. voters might put "the economy" over the rights of minorities...it has happened before and it will happen again. That doesn't mean that I will agree with those priorities.

I know what the majority news sources are saying because I am here, watching it. Even CNN has different programming for their international affiliates. They are seeing different programming than what we are seeing in the U.S. You are following some anti-US Twitter groups that search for the ultra-conservative views and represent the minority. Outside of Fox News, the media is pretty liberal in the U.S....you might not know that. I'm watching the actual news coverage, both national and local...and that's the majority.

I agree with you, as I also detest prejudice and racism and blind nationalism. However, I do feel as if the U.S. is full of individuals that feel as I do, and due to freedom of speech, we are allowed to voice our displeasure with our government, our policies and our leaders...and I take that opportunity seriously and also appreciate the freedom to do so.

That is correct...minority. Take CNN, CBS, NBC, ABC and MSNBC all together and you have a majority, with Fox News being the minority. The five News sources I just listed...and that I mentioned in my previous comment are liberal leaning. Fox News is the only news source, out of the six majors listed that is conservative leaning.

Funny thing about "most trusted". There is one ideologically conservative network:  Fox. So, people who want news with a conservative bent will ALL watch it. In other words, they get about 100% of their target viewers. And that's, perhaps, 20% to 30% of the total population of news viewers.

There are 3 other national cable news networks, 10 to 20 regional news networks, 3 national broadcast news networks, and 400 to 500 local stations with news. The remaining 80% is split amongst all those other networks.

Yes, Fox gets more loyal conservative viewers than any ONE of the other networks. But, 70 to 80% of viewers vote NOT to ever watch Fox. They watch one of the other, liberal news networks.

Also, from the latest Pew study: Fox’s appeal among young viewers sets a low water mark for the network. Millennial respondents in the study say that they trust Fox News less than any other news source. A plurality of 43% distrust Fox News. The 43% of Millennials who distrust Fox is nearly three times the number who distrust MSNBC (15%).

The numbers aren’t much better in other demographic groupings. Gen-Xers trust Fox News less than every other source except for Limbaugh. And the same thing is true for the Baby Boomers who are Fox’s best demo. Fox News has a median age of 68.8 years. Its top rated program (Bill O’Reilly) average viewer is over 72 years old.

Have you seen his haircut though?

His parent's obviously brainwashed him, and then gave him a gun. Don't get me wrong, he should hang but his parents need to be locked up too. People don't come up with these ideas on their own. These kids don't become so ****ed up just because.

I'm not even sure that a black person has ever performed an act or terrorism like this, but if they did I'm sure, apart from the racists, people would wonder what lead them to commit the act as well.

I don't doubt that there was something that could have factored into why he did this.

And of course people would wonder, if a Black person committed such a thing, why they did it. It's just it seems they get the more "shoot first, questions later" treatment which is just unfair.

They definitely do. Studies have shown that people (even black people, and even people who wish that they didn't) view black men as inherently more threatening and aggressive than white men, etc...

It's totally unfair and has no basis in truth. It's a vestige of our extremely racist past that has proven very difficult to erase. The police should be held to a higher standard though, and trained to deal with the subject rather than told to ignore it.

The whole idea here is that the black people were nice to him. They aren't making him look good by any means. Much worse, in fact. Not to mention that it's a direct quote.
Also breaking news just means that it's new news, which his statements are.

I find it fascinating how people can just get a gun with ease in America, I live in England and I've never touched or seen an actual gun in my entire life.
