Mister Gaga 22,067
Can someone explain me how the system works? I'm confused. How can Bad Romance have 11X Platinium? It has 5.57 million copies sold + 6M from YouTube + 840k from Spotify = 12.4M Applause has 3X Platinium, but... 2.60 million copies sold + 2M from YouTube + 920K = 5.8M
JustPokeHerFace 2,564
Only the streams coming from the US are counted towards RIAA certs, not the total ones. BR has over 600 million views, but not all of them are US; only the US-based ones are counted. Thus why the numbers are what they are.
Yanko 9,860
sales+us streams+airplay= 11x platinum 10x in sales is 10 million so bad romance got 6 million copies worth of streaming and airplay

Because if not, the numbers don't close

JustPokeHerFace 2,564
So, 460 million views are necessarily from the US. Because if not, the numbers don't close Youtube Views + Spotify streams + streams from other music-streaming websites that all come from within the United States are counted towards RIAA certifications. So 5,570,000 copies are from pure sales, and 5,430,000 are sales-equivalent streams (like 100 views = 1 sale or whatever) from the sources I listed above. Gypsy Life 118,907
I'm sure only US streams count. Bad Romance's case is a huge mystery that we'll never understand until someone from RIAA clears it up.
Fame Romance 10,517
sales+us streams+airplay= 11x platinum 10x in sales is 10 million so bad romance got 6 million copies worth of streaming and airplay Do they include airplay too? They didn't say anything about airplay for digital single certifications when they introduced it in 2013.

JusKeepBreathin 19,311
Digital certifications differ from single certifications which are rarely done now. If you look at RIAA certifications some say single, some say album, and some say digital. Single certifications only count actual sales digital counts sales, YouTube and streaming.
