I wouldn't call it the scariest but it definitely changed the game for horror movies.

Pink flamingos always fascinated me.

No...I was 14 when I watched it for the first time and I remember laughing a lot (bc of the ****ty special effects, the possessed girl cursing like a sailor, etc.)...idk, maybe ppl hyped it so much to me that I was kind of disappointed...

I can't really remember the last movie I watched that got me scared...maybe "The ring", but I'm not sure, because I was sick, so the bad feeling I got might have been an actual fever...The first "Insidious" is an ok movie and it has one of the most efective antagonists I had seen in a while, so it's a nice one to watch...Oh, "Drag me to hell" isn't necessarily scary or gory, but it's fun...

ATTENTION: (bad) jokes and sarcasm are still a thing, so don't take everything I say literally. Thank you.

Nah the cheesiness of the 70's effects is just too much in this day and age. Watch it for a laugh.

According to many people who were alive when it came out, at the time it was easily the scariest thing out. Compared to over 30 years of movies afterwards, it doesn't look that intense of course. But at the time it really struck a nerve with many people.

I wouldn't say scariest movie of all time, but definitely one of the best of all time.  to me that would go to The Conjuring but it is really all a matter of opinion.

No. I watched it, and was worried I would be scared, but I really wasn't.

Maybe it just felt dated for me.

It's definitely disturbing and Linda Blair was amazing in it, but I don't consider it the scariest. I don't think I have ever been scared by a movie though. I liked Sinister for it's effective "jump scares" and a-little-too-real looking snuff films.

Not too many modern horror films really get me excited though.

I've had friends that were disturbed by Jacob's Ladder, Clockwork Orange, and Phenomenon.

EDIT: I asked my mom and she said when Jaws and Texas Chainsaw Massacre first came out people flipped.

Just repeat to yourself, "It's just a show. I should really just relax."

At the time, yes. You guys have to take into consideration that there weren't many movies like that before 1973.

This. It annoys me when people try and discredit it.

I've never been one to find films "scary" even though I'm a huge horror fan, although a film called "The Banshee Chapter" almost did get under my skin.

If you hold it up to today's standards of what a horror movie is supposed to be, then no. But you have to be smarter than that.

Yes, the special effects are dated and Ellen Burstyn's acting is a bit over the top in a few scenes, but once you focus on the movie itself and don't pay attention to that, it truly is scary. The atmosphere, the situations, the believability of it all. I watched it so many times that it doesn't scare me like it used to, but I guarantee you I would still be thinking about it when I go to bed.

You also need to put it into its release context. People had never seen that on a theater and were taken to the extreme for the first time ever. They were incredibly shocked and there were hardcore religious manifestations and stuff like that.

Anyway, more than a really good horror movie, it is an excellent movie, so you should definitely see it.

(then there is that whole Director's Cut vs Original Cut debate, but I'll let you make your own choice :green:)

who will love me when the night is over

The Blair With Project is scarier imo.

I find those movies the scariest when u actually don't see the danger. Just lik in blair with project or paranormal activity. Because that's my imagination will make all kinds of scenarios that'll haunt me

I tend to laugh when thing get to freaky/fake.

It didn't scare me that much, but then again I get scared watching Americas Most Wanted and Forensic Files.
