Wet Fire 7,601
Seeing Gaga's rendition of John Lennon's 'Imagine' at the opening ceremony of the 2015 European Games in Baku, I'm very much impressed to see the growth her voice has gone through. Remember the last time she performed Imagine, from that to this...her evolution has the essence of reinvention. Yes, her previous performance of Imagine was good. But this, this is outstanding. There's vocal genius, there's emotion and passion. The last time she performed it, it was great, but more like wow she's a pop superstar covering John Lennon's magnum opus. But this...it feel like she has her complete command on the redition. She doesn't only perform it, she owned it. She made it her own by incorporating her own musicality to it. Oh the moments when she did the opera bit, and the jazz bit, and then the rock bit. She left her own mark on the song. She did it complete justice. It's an unforgettable performance for me. The growth of her voice is clear if you put the two of her covers of Imagine side by side.

Music 15,215
i couldn't agree more! I genuinely was shocked reading so many comments on here stating that they "didn't like the screaming", "the Dope voice" and other comments saying that "she was obviously trying too hard."that performance honestly had me tearing up. musically, she has transformed into something any musician would crave for - she had an emotional connection with the audience!the "screaming" bit was actually a belt - you can tell that it is a belt due to the resonance and vibrato (which was not forced, look at her mouth, she is not forcing anything). nevertheless, this was my favourite part, it reflected the vulnerability of the lyrics.the "Dope voice", why is this even considered negative? some of her best performances are of her performing Dope ..the "trying too hard", now this is just ridiculous.I think we often forget what Gaga does for us. she kept this a secret for us.I don't expect us all to love everything Gaga does, but I feel as though we should at least acknowledge that she truthfully wanted to surprise us with a cover of an iconic song in music.despite all of this, I am so proud of her and truthfully believe that this will be remembered as one of the best covers she has performed. Nicole 1,809
I applaud her for not over performing it, that's the mistake a lot of people do when trying to cover Imagine. She showed her range in an appropriate and minimal manner and at the same time demonstrated how much her voice has grown + matured over the years. Absolutely amazing, and I hope she knows just how amazing the performance was.

Katie14 4,828
I can't give anymore likes today, even though I reached my limit yesterday, the limit hasn't reset yet. But, I will give you a like as soon as I can.Anyway, I completely agree. I can't understand why so many fans on the other thread are complaining about her vocals. Someone even said they were getting second hand embarrassment. Seriously?

I agree.Tho it just depends on what you prefer to listen to. 2009's cover sounded more organic and natural and raw too me, more ..pure. I prefer it. このジョルノジョヴァンナ夢がある

Its this heavy tired sound that can be unpleasant to listen to. She was using the Dope voice for some parts of this performance but she sounded way lighter. It was like a dramatically improved Dope voice if that makes sense.Actually, the first time she sang Imagine, her voice sounded way heavier and more Dope-like.
