My problem with d2fang's post is he lumped a bunch of people together who are actually individuals, just like the Chinese or Japanese people who said Katy's performance was cute are individuals. Nobody speaks for their entire race, and that applies to white people as well. The latter part is what you keep dancing around. You're not advocating for white people's blood to fill the streets, you're lumping all white people together but we do not in fact act collectively and we are not collectively responsible for each other's actions just because we share a skin color, racial identity, or heritage. As to d2fang's lumping of people, that is something you'll have to take up with him/her, as I did not write it. Cop-out, I know #imsuchaflop but the truth is I only quoted it. And I agree with the second part, especially when it comes to things like islamophobia post 9/11 and racism. I just wish more white people were as ardent in defending minorities as they are when defending their own. I say that b/c the fact is they are still the statistical and influential majority of the U.S., like JackGermanotta said in this post: Have you ever considered the fact that white people are the vast majority in the US - which explains why they are more visible on magazine covers, tv shows etc due to fair representation of the public? Didn't Gwen do all this already? I suppose Harajuku is not the same thing though. It really is a type of fashion lifestyle. Regardless, it was blatantly uneducated and totally appropriation, but I don't believe it was intentionally racist. Most white people don't understand their privilege and even more have no idea how racist they are without meaning to be. WHITE PRIVILEGE is very real. Katy is a silly girl but I don't think her intention was to come off racist. Her team is just not very thorough in their research. But PRISM for me is just boring, over half the album is ballads about Russel and really the only good one is By The Grace of God.
