She signed few good artists including Michelle Branch. And so many people have their own label. Eminem have Shady records, Jay Z have Roc Nation/Roc-a-fella, and so on. Madonna was one of the founders of Maverick Records, which had Alanis Morissette on it, among others. I bet she was bending Madonna's ear during the photo shoot getting advice on her plan to build an empire. And Maverick is now inactive. These vanity labels never go anywhere. Because if Gaga did it first and then Katy, the same would be said on here, Katy is copying Gaga. It will always be this back and forth about the two biggest female pop acts. Madonna was bought out after 12 years in 2004 because she and her partners, who owned a 60 percent share of the label, brought a lawsuit against Warner who had 40 percent interest in Maverick over profits or something. They settled it and bought her out.. I imagine she made a pretty penny when it was all said and done and knew when to get out. Alanis Morissette's album Jagged Little Pill, released by Maverick, sold 33 million albums worldwide and over 22 million of that was in the U.S. Every label turned that album down but Maverick LOL Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
