Shadow 6,526
Well, you're right from a scientific point of view. But a belief is what is it is. One can choose to believe something or not. It's like the creed for Catholics that says: I BELIEVE in the Holy Catholic church. You accept it as the representation of the truth. But nobody can be sure can they? Indeed, but by the definition of truth, someone is right and someone has it wrong. When someone believes or trusts in a religious institution, they are putting their faith in something they think is true. Who trusts in a lie willingly? No one, right? However, will people believe in something because they choose to even if it's proven wrong? Indeed, that happens, because otherwise it would require them to change their worldview. Redstreak 6,653
Militant atheists or militant believers (of any religion) are both equally wrong. but religions call for their members to be militant. Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~
MonsterMum 2,532
Katy and her parents have different world views now, with two different interpretations of accountability. Hmm I'm thinking about that one. Depends on how far into religion you go imo. I think religion is a personal experience. Taking myself here as reference point, im Catholic, my boyfriend is atheist. We don't have different views on the world or anything the only difference is that I choose to visit a church sometimes and pray but me being Catholic doesn't interfere in our relationship. I don't think it will in Katy's case either (unless her parents are those holy warrior kinda people). but religions call for their members to be militant. I dunno what religion you wanna drag here but I can only look at my own and I haven't heard the Pope asking me or any Catholics to be militant. Shadow 6,526
We will all inevitably be bound by objective truth, you are right about that, but our beliefs are not always bound by it. A belief in Christ as a Savior is not necessarily an objective truth, but it is still something that people believe en masse. Again, I think some of you guys are taking what I said way too literally. My comment was not meant to be commentary on the veracity of Katy's beliefs, it was meant to say that we are all allowed to believe what we choose. I'm not trying to get on your case and I respect your point of view. Melech 9,900
If she prays to a god then she is not atheist. Dunno what she is but as long as she's happy that's fine. The part what bugs me most tho, is the non-believers being even more passionate in trying to convince believers that there is no God. I'm Catholic and will speak about it when asked or share my opinion. I wish sometimes atheists could do the same tbh. this especially on this site but religions call for their members to be militant. so what? Atheist doing this a lot as well, just read the posts in this thread or in general on GGD.

Thank you, that actually means a lot whether it's true or not. I love reading your posts too, for exactly the same reasons, but I think they ring true more in your case for obvious reasons. :P
