craig 680
the only thing that came into my mind is the performance reminded me of Kylie Minogue's X tourI thought of that too. Kylie had done two songs with a Japanese musician which inspired it.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sometime_Samurai

craig 680
what should worry you is that once again katy is more talked than gaga :)It isn't really the GP or mainstream press. It's a few PC critics and sites which are always on about this, trying to make Americans feel even more uncomfortable about racial matters.
Robotboy 1,700
i dint get why she had to dress like that like what was the point? at least the set was stunning! her vocals ruined it a bit but it was expected. Remember that you are unique. Like everyone else.

ryhanna 3,507
Come on, now... It may have been slightly ignorant of Asian cultures, but that doesn't make it racist. People are so quick to pull the 'race card,' sometimes...

CoolTrainerTerry 1,447
It wasn't racist. It was culturally ignorant. Cultural appropriation/ignorance/insensitive is still racist. It's like wearing a Native American headdress or dressing up like a "Slutty Savage"
Arturo 40,746
Cultural appropriation/ignorance/insensitive is still racist. It's like wearing a Native American headdress or dressing up like a "Slutty Savage" But Katy didn't do it in a mocking manner or even a silly/s-xual manner. She just performed normally, innocently (and ignorantly) thinking that she was doing no harm.
elixt 34
Can I just say how much I love this performance :emo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jokARaxZIi4&noredirect=

She just performed normally, innocently (and ignorantly) thinking that she was doing no harm. It doesn't have to be silly or s-xy (although, her dress was clearly going for the s-xy look). And just because she doesn't realize it's racist doesn't excuse it. We've become so desensitized to certain forms of racism that we can't even properly identify it anymore.
